Connect Windows 8 to Xbox?

Sorry if this isn't the right forum but I had a look around and this atleast appears the closest.

I used to have my laptop (win7) connected to my xbox so that I could watch all the media files through the xbox on the tv.

But since upgrading to windows 8 it appears to have lost this connectivity and the two machines don't seem to be connecting to each other at all.

Can anybody tell me how this is to be done through windows 8?

Did you try downloading Smartglass from the Windows Store?

I have smartglass on the laptop but all that appears to allow me to do is view what I am doing on the xbox through the laptop ie 'Currently playing:Arkham City' 'Last played: Call of duty' 'Gamerscore etc..

But doesn't seem to provide any pathways to the movie files on my laptop, whereas the windows media center connection with w7 did.

Hmm. Hit Win+Q and lookup media streaming options. Make sure too that the homegroup on the xbox and the PC are still the same

Decided to attempt this again and even though I have the xbox and the laptop in the same media group, it still doesn't help.

Also I found out that WMC only comes with W8Pro and if you had those, the problem would be sorted, so that's that important step nipped in the bud.

I personally use Tversity, comes up no problem in the media viewer thing on the xbox. Fair warning though streaming full HD will require a decent processor on the laptop/PC.

Maybe I'll just stick to manually transferring files to an external drive and plug that into the xbox.
