GAMEWEEK 28 CAPTAIN

This is the first week in a long time where there's no obvious captain choice.

RVP probably won't start, but could get a 10 minute cameo. Rooney and Hernandez should start though.
Fellaini is hit and miss but is playing Reading who are leaking goals at the minute. Baines also a good shout here.
Michu scored 18 points against Fulham and followed that up with a goal and assist in the Cup final. He's already scored against Newcastle this year and they've conceded 22 in their last 9 games.
Sissoko has landed in the Premier League with a bang, as is Newcastle's tradition with January signings. They face Swansea who's eye might be off the ball following their cup win.
Bale and Walcott play each other in the North London derby. With both fighting for Champions League spots this should be a high tempo game and either of these could be the difference.
Mata faces West Brom at home. Chelsea will be looking to get back on form after just one win in their last four games. CL football is nowhere near guaranteed.
Silva, Tevez and Aguero faces Aston Villa, with City needing maximum points from their remaining games to have a chance of catching United.
Lambert can't stop scoring and faces bottom of the league QPR
Suarez and Sturridge face a Wigan side that a notorious for conceding big against the stronger teams. Suarez already bagged a brace earlier this year against them.

All of the above are realistic captaincy choices for this weekend.

Too many great captaincy choices. It's on Lambert right now.

    I'm thinking Suarez...

probably aguero or Mata however if Mata plays the Midweeke fa cup game ill prob leave him on the bench as that would be 4 games in 9 days and we all know what rafas like.

Risking Bale even though I have Mata/Walcott/V. Persie in my team.

I think City are going to run riot at Villa this weekend. They don't win there and the season's over.

Have it on Suarez but Wigan are generally good at the end of the season.

I'll probably let the FFS captain poll decide for me.

    going with Augero, Bale VP

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭SpaceCowb0y

Newcastle have conceded 22 in their last 9 games

    That is a horrific stat!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 492 ✭✭moreau

I had it on Lambert but thinking Bale after last night.

He had 10 shots on goal and was actually playing as central striker ahead of Ade. (see soccernet average position). Ade managed a whopping 2 shots out of Spurs 27!

Maybe Boas will play him on the left vs Arsenal, I don't know, but if Bale is given this type of free role he will be lethal:eek:

As an aside I think he should 100% be given this role as teams will find it more difficult to double up on him which is so easy to do on the wing (Jones+Rafael) in Utd game...

I have it on Fellaini at the moment, Reading are very poor defensively.

Augero seems very tempting, its between him and mata.Might go with Augero he due a few goals and with must win games then seems logical.

I've gone Mata captain and bale VC at the moment.

Very tricky one this. I've already voted for Suarez but am seriously considering keeping Bale as captain. Suarez has been magic over the last while but I don't think Bale has anything to fear from this Arsenal defense, particularly given the form he's in. In their most recent games against half decent opposition (Liverpool, Chelsea and City), Arsenal have conceded 2 goals a game. Although the flip side of that is that Wigan are utterly putrid at the back. Out of 27 games so far, they've conceded 2 or more goals in 18 matches (2x12, 3x3 and 4x3). Hard to imagine Suarez not going to town on this kind of opposition...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,360 ✭✭✭NeVeR

I've RVP up front.. but i dont think he'll play.. but still not taken him out.

My Captain at the moment is Fellaini - But i also have Bale / Walcott / Michu / lambert

I've changed my mind 3 -4 times already from Bale / Michu and Fellaini...

if you have those players who would you cap ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,809 ✭✭✭q2ice

Going with Tevez. Villa conceded 28 goals in the last 10 games.
Newcastle are currently 5th on the form table while Aston Villa are 17th

Lescott just scored against Oldham. Should definitely be considered by the few that have him.

This week will be a gamble either way, so many good choices.

Bale for me. Electric form, Arsenal playing poorly, traditionally high scoring fixture.

I had voted Suarez as he was leading the FFS poll but Bale is now in the lead so looks like I'll be going with him.

If I had Bale it'd be on him. As it is I'll be throwing a dart.

17 options, 13 of them already chosen and highest is Suarez on 22%. This is the most open week of the year so far. If Fellaini and RVP end up starting it throws a spanner in the works even more.

    Yeah it is so open...

On FISO they are leaning towards Bale 28%. Next Lambert 16 %....

A lot prob voting bale after Monday night

I'll be going with Suarez. Wigan are notoriously bad against the big clubs. Results so far this year against top 4:

    Chelsea 0-2
    United 0-4
    Liverpool 0-3 (Suarez 2 goals)
    Spurs 1-0
    Man City 0-2
    United 0-4
    Chelsea 1-4

Other than a shock victory over Spurs, Wigan have been unable to score let alone win a game. And this is an improvement on last year, think they had two or three losses over 6-0! If Liverpool score early they could run riot, and Suarez could be key. I'm half thinking of doubling up on Sturridge too.

Bale could continue his good run but Arsenal will be massively up for this game. North London derby and a chance to grab a CL spot. On Bale's current form I expect them to double mark him, Spurs are a one man team recently. Bale could score but I think Suarez is the better bet, I'm hoping more people go for Bale/Lambert though!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,141 ✭✭✭Santi101

Might go with Mata here, see how Chelsea line up tonight.

Think Bale and Suarez have potential for a goal, dont see Bale running riot though.

The Wigan game where Pool won 3-0 was at Anfield. The 4-1 loss to Chelsea flattered Chelsea and they got a couple of late goals. As well as that, Liverpool are not a top four team.

I wouldn't put as much emphasis on how Wigan have performed this season. I'd be checking how they perform a "great escape" by coming good in the last ten games each year.

They beat United one nil last year and Arsenal 3-2 the year before. Those are just two results I remember. They're notorious for being a different animal come the season end and that worries me because Liverpool are anything but consistent e.g. West Brom, Stoke and Villa games.

This is not me trying to start an argument or disagree. It's me outlining why I was going to go with Suarez but am thinking about Bale or alternatives.

Earlier in the season I captained Suarez thinking he had to deliver home to Reading. All he delivered was an assist. A poor return that weekend. That's why I am wary of not just Suarez but an inconsistent Liverpool team.

I've picked Bale in the poll here but still debating Bale or Lampard....gonna stick with Bale!

At the moment it's on Bale but I'd say it'll change at least a couple more times.

If I had Lambert I'd be very tempted to pull the trigger.

RVP. Jayney mac it's not a hard choice at all.

    He's going to start and score a hat-trick. Ya'll know it's possible.

Assume you are joking here! No chance I'd have it on RVP this week. Chances are if he features it will be for 10-20 minutes.

The most likely scores for RVP are 0,1,6 in that order :)

aguero for me . Would like to have gone mata but Im expecting a nasty atmosphere at stamford bridge tomorrow which could affect the players if they dont get an early goal.

Yes. I think he'll play. And if he plays, he gets points. Trust me he's my most hated player in real life right now and I still can't take the armband off him. I used to never have him in my team as a principle but then last season I couldn't ignore it any longer.

    RVP gets points.

Fellani was my pick but flicking between Mata and Lambert now with Mata the likely choice.
Augero was tempting but i am not of sound enough mind tyo be hanging on till Monday when other choices get huge scores first!!

Mata for me. I expect a Chelsea demolition against WBA this weekend!!:D

Can't see WBA doing much without the big man up front.

really fancy an open game between spurs and arse with 3 or 4 goals
so it has to be bale for me
i'd be amazed if he didnt score well here

wouldnt be surprised if wigan got a something from that game and
wouldnt have suarez in my first three capt choices
they've beaten pool once in their last five league games and
    they need to win

mata is due a big score and lambert scores well most games

bale and lamb vc it is for me

He's played very little football lately so he very well may start tomorrow just to keep sharp for the Madrid game.

Although Bale shooting at Scezney who can't seem to hold onto a ball lately makes me veer towards captaining the Spurs man.

made the switch from Bale to Mata there as captain. Don't let me down Juan!

Bale (C) for me. There are loads of seemingly good choices though, it's a tough one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,962 ✭✭✭Hogey007

it was a toss up for me between Mata and Fellaini but dooubts over fellaini makes my decision easier, other good choices there, bale, suarez, michu but i think there'll be a bit of a backlash from chelsea today and with Mata being rested for the cup game there's a very good chance he'll start, i was going to say he's certain to start but with rafa you can never be certain.

this thread will be interesting when the gameweek closes, a couple of the strong captain choices will do really well and others won't and because there's so many choices this week we'll be kicking ourselves if we get it wrong but hindsight is a great thing, if fellaini gets a brace and mata scores 2 points i'll be gutted but fellaini is doubtful so i can only go with the percentages.

Not much love for Michu in the poll, I thought with Newcastle being so defensively awful lately that he would be a contender for top choice!

Bale won't be running riot this week against Arsenal, there are weeks where he is a very sensible captain choice but not this one.
I'm pinning my hopes on Aguero, I always like to pick a captain who wouldn't surprise me with a hat trick, this is his chance.
