    Hi All

Firstly apologies if this is the wrong forum ..... Im looking for a little bit of guidance on protein shakes , Im new to them but Im doing a bootcamp 4 times a week and alot of the lads there are taking them but they want to bulk up whereas I want to loose some weight.
Im about a stone a half over weight and Ive joined the camp to finally get rid of this excess weight and get my confidence back
I work long hours and am gone in the morning 6am and dont get back to my flat at night till about 9pm ( I go to bootcamp at 8 on my way home from work ). -
Im bad at having breakfast but Ive been trying really hard over the las 2 weeks to have some
My first question is could I take 2 protein shakes a day ? 1 in the car on the way home from work( 6.30ish ),on my way to bootcamp and then the other after bootcamp on my way back to my flat . I want to reduce what I eat at night as I normaly dont get to have my dinner until I get home about 9 and I think that's part of my problem .
I only get 30 mins for luch at 1pm and then I dont normally eat until I get home at night . so maybe a protein shake at 4pm / 5pm maybe ?
I dont want to use it as a total meal replacement but I hoping that i could maybe use them as some thing to help me eat less at night ??

that brings me to my second question - If i take one after training at 9 could I have something smal to eat with it , ? or is that a no no ?

What would be the best time , considering my day , to have the shakes ?

    Advice really welcome

Sort your diet first. Then if you aren't getting enough protein, supplement with shakes.

Thank you for your advice - Im working on it at the moment so that is in hand . What Im trying to figure out is if I include the protein shakes will it help me to reduce what I eat at night ...

The only way you can know that is if you try it out for yourself.

Protein shakes = calories. So if you take them and still need to eat at night then you will be increasing your calorie intake which would make you gain weight.

What i was wondering is if I took shake after camp and just had a sandwich when I went home ... Surley that would be better than a full dinner at 9pm at night ? and if I had as hake around 5pm also would that make me feel fuller so Id be less hungry ...

I dont want to try it and put on weight when Im trying so hard to loose it .... Im looking for advice , hence the post

It doesn't matter what time you eat. What matters is your overall intake over the day.

There's no need for protein shakes if you've a good diet regardless if you eat your calories spread out through the day or all in one sitting.

I'm giving you advice, hence my replies.

Congrats on doing the bootcamp dude, keep it up! I don't think that eating at 9 should be a major issue concerning weight gain. You dont need 2 protein shakes per day. Protein no matter what you hear is never as good as a healthy meal. I think you may be making an issue about the shakes when really they might not be even needed in your case. Id say try drinking more water throughout the day as you will feel more full for longer nor maybe a portion of porridge for example. So id say that you dont really need the protein shakes. Make you exercise more intense so that you will burn more calories and therefore more weight. Good luck Son!!
