Breakfast on the go

I like to go to the gym early in the morning before heading to college.

What can I have for breakfast on the way in that's not too unhealthy? Normally i would have porridge in the morning but not feasible after gym as go in straight from there.

Bringing sandwiches in is handy but sure the bread is empty calories right?
    Banana?
    Some sort of smoothie?

Want something that I can bring in my bag rather than buying food in there, as the choices aren`t great, expensive, or the queues wreck my head:pac:

I don't know much about what you should or shouldn't eat before a workout, but hardboiled eggs make a great portable breakfast. You could also boil a joint of bacon at the weekend and have a slice of that, along with some fruit. That's typically what I bring to work when I'm tired of porridge.

Seems like the best option for you is a shake.

Get some whey protein and oats. Blend the oats (do it in bulk to save time) and mix it in with a regular protein shake. This way you'll get your supply of protein and carbohydrates needed for a workout in an easily accessible way.

If this doesn't suit you, you could mix in the whey in some natural fruit juice as fruits are also a good source of carbonhydrates.

Can you buy paleo type muffins and paleo food in general in the shops? Ill have to learn how to cook otherwise

As for whey protein, never had this before

    Wikipedia says
Some people experience severe digestive issues following consumption of whey protein powder. These may include gas, bloating, cramps, tiredness, weakness, fatigue, headaches, and irritability. One of the possible causes is lactose intolerance after they ingest whey concentrate. Undigested protein in the colon will undergo bacterial fermentation which leads to the production of, among other things, gas and fatty acids.

Similar symptoms can be caused by ingredients found in lower quality protein powders such as lactose in whey protein concentrate or artificial sweeteners in most commercial protein powders. The effects of these substances can be distinguished from the effects of whey alone by switching to an unsweetened whey isolate or hydrolysate. If symptoms are not eliminated by switching to a purer form of whey protein, using alternative protein sources such as pea protein or rice protein may reduce symptoms

I guess I got to just try it.

Not really, paleo and pre-packaged processed foods are kind of opposites :) learning to cook is a great idea!
Check out tim ferris the 4 hour chef, I'm tempted to get it for my husband!

I think M&S do a crust less quiche but it has dairy.

an oat bun, coconut bun, or oat pancakes doesn't involve much cooking knowledge tbh.
I sometimes cook pancakes/almond buns the night before and they are fine to eat the next day to eat or get up a lil early and cook them before you head off to the gym.

    Pancakes:
    30g oats
    2 egg whites
    Some almond milk
mix together and fry until golden brown top with some fruit/nuts.
Nicer if you add flavored whey or cocoa powder to the mix.

Another option could be some yogurt (Greek or natural) mix with oats and some fruit/nuts.

  • I make scrambled egg muffins.

Get a silicone / non stick muffin tray.
    Pre Heat oven to 160

Beat 8 eggs (the better beaten they are, the fluffier they are!) and add some pepper.

Fry some pancetta, (bacon lardons) with half of a red onion.
    Grate some cheese.

Pour a little bit of egg into each of the muffin hollows. Add some pancetta & onion and some cheese. Top the hollows up with the egg (about 3/4 way to the brim). Put a little bit of cheese on top.

Oven job for 30/35 minutes (they go a little brown).

    Leave to sit.

Can be frozen, or just kept in ziplock bags in the fridge. 30s microwave job, or eaten cold. Ideal for quick breakfast.
