Well pi$$ed off at this shower!
Ordered TRW wishbones 8 days ago, assured by their 48 hour delivery claim. NCT retest due monday - weekend to fit them - cushty!
Didn't attempt delivery until yesterday, nobody home; shlepped it out to Finglas to collect from the depot.
Opened up the box to find 1 TRW arm, 1 MOOG (WHO?!) arm.
    Feck!
So now I've to fit this cheap "alternative" part, despite the fact that I ordered 2 OEM parts. No chance of sorting it over the weekend. If they had given me the heads up I had time to sort it, or at least ship a decent alternative like Febi or Lemforder. Pi$$-poor service, French feckers.

If you do a search you will find threads about them. I used them myself, but never again. Muppets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

Used them once. Took an age to arrive. When it did arrive, it was one brake disc instead of 2. Another week passed before the next delivery of 2 discs instead of one so I got 3 front discs in the end.
Good price though for original parts.

    Moog is a good brand.

    Moog is a good brand.

    I disagree.

    I disagree.

Ok, you learn something new every day. Thanks

people should use their local motor factors as they care more, give better advice and if the part is wrong etc you can quickly change it and you can get better prices if you push them abit harder....these other crowd are a waste of time and money really

My local one is not near good enough on price when looking for specific brands.

Yes, and they can stare at their PC screen and say things like,
"Aw um.. would YOU know what that filter looks like bud."

They've refunded me the 3.96 difference - tossers. Why they couldn't have emailed me so I could choose the alternative? I'm going to complain to the Advertising Standards about their '48 hour delivery' banner across the website. 'It states clearly in our T&Cs that parts can take 2 days to sort and delivery takes 3-5 working days' Well 48 hours is a blatant lie then isn't it? Bunch of eejits.

Yes the delivery claim is scandalous.

Some local MFs are good, others take the piss.

Yes, and they can stare at their PC screen and say things like,
"Aw um.. would YOU know what that filter looks like bud."

Since the same model car could use different filters, at least they guy at the counter is trying to get it right for you first time. These web based places can be a nightmare to deal with.

As for Moog, they are a good brand.Part of a very large company that also makes Ferodo brake pads and shoes, Champion plugs, wipers etc. They are OE quality. And no I do not sell Moog anymore. I personally would have no problem in putting a moog part into my car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

There is no way Moog are OE quality. I have learned that the hard way with Alfa upper wishbones and Audi suspension arms.

I sold THOUSANDS of Moog parts, never had any trouble with them. Wishbones, bushing, drop links etc..

But I don't sell them anymore, so there crap....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭2pack

well i never had a problem with local motor factors and if part not in stock would have them later that day or the next morning and could always get them cheaper than these internet suppliers and no problems returning goods either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,722 ✭✭✭maidhc

I must be strange, I have never heard of TRW, but often Moog. They are a pretty formidable company in their own right and I can't image their parts would be sub standard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Just because it's a big company doesn't mean the parts are up to scratch. Delphi are a very large company but I wouldn't rate their suspension parts either. I wouldn't even consider putting Moog or Delphi suspension parts into my own car but would have no problem using parts from an actual OE manufacturer such as TRW.

I once put 3 sets of Moog upper wishbones into an Alfa 147 in less than 20,000km. Had similar experiences with Audi suspension arms (one in particular wore out 2 new arms in 6000 miles) After that I told the guy selling the Moog stuff that I wouldn't buy any more from him until the 2 year warranty covered my labour as well as their sh1t parts. He hasn't been in contact since.

wish I had read this earlier. Ordered parts on tuesday to do the work tomorrow (Saturday). On the checkout page it said delivery time was 3 days grand. Just got an email to confirm part of my order would be delivered by next wednesday and the rest is still being processed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,238 ✭✭✭Ardennes1944

Its well known that mister-auto have slow delivery times but their prices for suspension components are very good.
Prices for Febi-Bilstein parts for an e46 are dirt cheap on it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,029 ✭✭✭shedweller

Ordered a set of shocks from them but the front ones were the wrong type. They refunded me once they received the wrong shocks and i had to get them elsewhere.
Not too long after, i gave them a second chance and bought wipers for two cars. Wipers arrived but they were all from different manufacturers! They were the right size but all looked different. One was even the old metal cantilevered style!

Never again! Theres plenty of other online sellers and, as has been pointed out already, the local motor factors.

only ordered from them the once and it came within 2 days..granted it was only filters for oil and AC..must remember this next time when ordering.
Normally i'd use Mick's but they don't seem to be stocking OEM anymore..and i need oem to ensure my warranty..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

Took 3 weeks for an NTK lambda sensor for a Corolla to arrive. Just as well I wasn't in a hurry for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 616 ✭✭✭2pack

I wouldnt use any of these crowd either, i would rather use my local motor factors too and as they now know me i can haggle with them and now get trade price.
They told me they can get the cheaper parts too but dont recommend using them as they dont last,
They are very helpful too and appreciate your business unlike alot of these online shops where you are just another number...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 977 ✭✭✭Wheelnut

I agree that you're better off with the local guy (subject to checking your prices) for three reasons: You can check the part at the counter as inadvertently pointed out by spiggotpaddy, you can bring in your old part for matching and you can bring back the part if it's wrong.

I'm not too impressed with Mick's Garage either. I had two transactions with them: the first a set of parking sensors. I e-mailed them for advice about painting and never got a reply. The second service parts for an Almera. The air filter was out of tolerance and I had to force the lid of the airbox to close it, the spark plugs were totally wrong. They agreed to take them back and refund me but I had to pay the postage. So it cost me €6-50 for their mistake.

My local Motor Factors is a feckin rip.

Went to get a wheel hub for my car, 186 euros ex vat (Volvo wanted 380 euros)

Ordered the same part, same make everything for 86 euros delivered from Berlin.

Some motor factors do take the piss.

Although they have a handy tool for finding part numbers :)

I ordered this rad for my 300d a few weeks ago took 4 days to come from France, it works great and only took an hour to fit, total cost about €85.

I've just used them for two shocks, delivery took seven days which isn't exactly spectacular but got what I ordered 30% cheaper than three local motor factors who were all the same price

Probably wouldn't use them if I needed something urgently but I'd use them again for non urgent stuff

    Got caught out here.

    http://www.mister-auto.ie/en/ignition-cable-kit/volkswagen-polo-6n2-1-0-50hp_v14172_g685.html

I bought the first cable kit on the list thinking it comes with spark plugs. Contacted them and they said the listing referred too the plugs on the end of the cables and not a set of spark plugs. The plugs are 8 - 10 quid each so I thought I was getting a bargain as the same was 75 quid locally (50 + 25). Was I just a bit slow that day or is it false advertising?

Considering never using than again as I had problems with my previous order a few weeks ago. I ordered a crank pulley listed as in stock on the website. Two days later the emailed me saying they didn't have it stock... I ordered another one off the list from another manufacturer. Exact same thing again, an e-mail two days later. Emailed them asking which ones are actually in stock and finally got the pulley to my door about two weeks after the initial order.

Of the parts I ordered some arrived last Wednesday, some Thursday
Still waiting on the rest of the order 2 weeks later.

Not for my car! Every time I price stuff from the Irish websites, they're way more expensive.

I can get a full (4) Bilstein B4 shocks delivered to my door from the UK for €280.

The KYB/Monroe stuff from Mr Auto is in excess of €400. Give me the superior Bilstein's every time.

Can also get an Eibach Pro-kit springs delivered from the UK for €220, cheaper than their KYB sets.

    Rip-off Republic!

Shocks from Neo Brothers (Saab specialists) Link.

    Eibach Pro-Kit from ebay. Link.

Parcel Motel for free delivery to Ireland, when using their UK address. :)

This is also the same price for the Eibachs. So check your own car on that site.

Loads of other UK sites. Euro car parts etc. etc.

I can see your point, but on the other hand you did not say you expected to get four coils with the order and that line is worded exactly the same way.

Ordered this wiper Motor on 11th and have been given five different delivery days in just six days, not impressed with the 24/48 Hour Delivery Quote. Also can not get through on the phone lone just left hanging on FOREVER!

    AVOID at all costs.

I've ordered clutches, timing belt kits, waterpumps, brake disks & pods, drop links, filters and God knows what else. Everything came as described, and on time, and no issues with the quality. Mind you, they do have some bargain basement brands that are so cheap compared to the rest that you do wonder how good they really are. So I avoid these.

But my experiences with Mr Auto on the whole have been positive.

George, what is a good control arm manufacturer?

I too got caught before fitting control arms and they honestly didnt last long at all.

I was laughed out the door of CPL when I tried to haggle with them.

    MicksGarage all the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,088 ✭✭✭sean1141

I got droplinks and wiper blades off them a while back. No problems with them and they were a great price compared to micksgarage 10euro for a bosch aero blade compared to 20 with micksgarage.
Arrived on the day they said it would too..

i have litersally bought dozens of parts off them and never once had a problem . and i shall continue to do so .
micksgarage on the other hand i will never buy off again , shower of muppets got my order wrong on 3 occasions and i had to send back part to be changed at cost to me

Yes where indicated. Some parts would be marked during purchase as being dispatched maybe two days after ordering, and delivery would be 2days thereafter. So no real complaints and certainly no big delays.

As an aside, I had to return a duff wheel bearing once. Agreed return with Mr A, and the Courier called and collected it, and money was refunded a few days later. Again no big hassles.

Quite surprised to see quite a few here being unhappy with their experiences and I don't doubt these for minute, but my own experiences have been positive.

I used micksgarage twice without issue, but I do find them quite expensive and don't bother with them because of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 384 ✭✭Dermo123

I must say that I find Micks Garage excellent for price and delivery. However you still have to compare prices and, for some parts, they can be more expensive. I had to order off Mister-Auto/EuroCarParts/GSF/Local Motor Factors on occasion for price or availability reasons but delivery can be a lot slower than Micks.
I guess you have to weigh up which one to use for each purchase once you are aware of the pitfalls.

I just received an order off them today, after waiting ten days for delivery they sent me the wrong timing belt kit for my car. They substituted the original parts that were ordered with another which
Won't fit my engine type.I have sent two complaints using there website and have yet to hear a reply.
Not happy with wrong parts being sent and not happy with no communication from customer service. What should I do?

They have a fairly good return service. Most likely because it is used so much.
They'll email you a barcode to print off and tape to the package. Then you ring the courier to organise the collection. You might also be able to do it online. When they get back the goods they will issue a refund. All straightforward enough but if you were in need of spare parts in the first place......

Going by stories on here I must be the only person to receive the actual parts I ordered in a reasonable time for a good price!

I suppose out of all the people that buy from mister auto, only a few are boardsies and only a few of those will post something here.
I wont buy from mister auto again in any case. Too many other places to buy from and they are much more consistent.
Actually, i got some gas struts from rexbo.eu not too long ago and one of them leaked shortly after purchase. I emailed them a picture of it leaking and they sent on a new one. No hassle and the parts were the right ones first time. Although one was banjaxed within a week. But that can happen with anything. Rexbo are based in Germany so watch out for left hand drive parts. A workmate nearly bought bosch wipers recently but realised they may not work so well here since our wipers pivot from the other side of the car! It was the aero feature that was the problem you see...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

Dealt with Mister-Auto fine except for left-handed Pollen filters which were refunded no problems.
Micks garage - mostly fine but a pain to deal with for returns even on things which were their fault.
Rexbo.eu- fine no problems at all for a Sill panel for a Mk1 Avensis which was unavailable anywhere else.
