Benefits of wearing a belt for non-powerlifters?

So I'v never worn a lifting belt in my life, but I do have an interest in getting as strong (and jacked) as possible. I do squats and deadlifts heavy mainly because I play sports and think they help me a lot in terms of power and explosiveness and because I think they improve my physique. However I find them very taxing in terms of recovery, particularly in the lower back. My form is fine on both.

Just wondering does a belt help reduce DOMS in the lower back? At the moment I find it tough to do squats and deadlifts in the same week. I have to get an extra few days rest before I feel strong enough to deadlift heavy. I know a belt would allow me to lift heavier, just wondering if this would help in terms of on-field performance or aesthetics? My maxes would be about 140 on the squat and 200 on the deadlift @ 82kg bodyweight, without any sort of equipment. Would it be worth my while investing in one?

How many reps and sets are you doing on work sets of squats/DLs?

At the moment, I'm cutting, so I only do 3 sets on squats and 2 on deadlifts. First one about 3-5 reps, then slightly lighter sets of 5-7. Prior to this I had been doing Eric Cresseys 16 week Maximum Strength program, which was usually 4-5 sets of 3-6 reps on a squat and deadlift variation each week. After my cut I'm probably going to do his second program, Show and Go or maybe 5/3/1. So volume will be much higher in a few weeks time. Would the belt be more suitable then?
