You'll want to let them know why you're returning to education, what you're looking to achieve, what you're hoping to study. Stuff like that. Make sure you know what the course is about, what the subject choices are, etc. Let them know that you have thought about this seriously. They're looking for commitment, so make sure you can show them that you have the correct attitude and that you won't drop out.

I had to supply an essay as part of the application process. Almost everyone in my year was asked about this on the day. So make sure you're familiar with your essay, and are able to speak about that subject. They also asked me about what books I've read and what type of interests I have. But if you're not a big reader then don't worry about it. Plenty of people in my class didn't have 'academic interests' as such, but they showed an eagerness to learn and get involved.

I was also asked about what I could bring to the class. Group work and class participation is a big part of TAP, so let them know that you like getting involved, meeting new people, etc. There's also a good mix of people in TAP, right across the spectrum. So don't miss an opportunity to let the know that you're comfortable in that type of environment.

Ultimately though, just sick back, answer honestly and try to appear enthusiastic. If you try to take on all of my advice, or other people's, then you're in danger of overcooking it. It's a 5-10 minute conversation where you're the star of the show!

And if it doesn't go well don't give up hope straight away. I thought mine went so bad that I gave up on the idea of college altogether. But it went better than I thought, and I got accepted. I haven't looked back since.

    Best of luck!

I rang them today, the lady said they'd decided last Thursday who is getting an interview and they'll be letting people know either way this week, more then likely by email, then interviews early June.

I doubt anyone has had an interview yet.
    Guessing they start Monday.
Mines Tuesday and I plan on being a lot better prepared this time.

I'm not sure. But at the very least they'll need to interview everyone first probably? I'm doing my prep now.

Definitely ask for feedback. They are usually very good at replying about that.

What area do you want to go on and study as I know both UCD and Maynooth have access programmes for mature students. I did the the Science and Engineering one in UCD before getting a place at TCD. So doing your access course in another university doesn't reduce your chances of getting a place at Trinity.

Had my interview this morning, I was the first of the day. Wonder was I the first interviewee overall?
They very friendly and nice, will know end of July if it's a yay or nay. Fingers crossed.

    Did interview take long?
    Were questions difficult?

Think it was 20-25 mins, the time flew by. Seemed like 10mins.

The questions as I explained to my friend aren't difficult, they aren't quizzing you so much as looking to get a sense of who you are. So they won't ask anything like, "can you name 4 of the subject we offer". I filled out the question sheet they sent me, but other then going over my essay again, it didn't really help.
Best advice I could give, get a good nights sleep, leave and plan to be there good and early so you aren't stressing over time. I was 25mins early, the girl after me was also 25mins early. You'll probably be a little nervous or stressed anyway, so lots of sleep and plenty of time to get there will help take some stress away. Also eat something, don't skip breakfast if you're interview is early. Oh and the science museum across the road is a good place to lock up a bike and go fix yourself in the toilets before going over and making that first impression.

Good luck everyone, might see you all in September.

Hey guys they sent out emails the original date was June 27th now its July 3rd best of luck everyone

That wasn't very clear at all. Some people got interview dates for the 27th July and most of these people couldn't make that date so it has been rearranged for the 3rd June

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 JUJU28

Has anyone any idea of when they make the decisions and offer out the places, i know they have an awful lot of interviews to get through.
I am just wondering as i was interviewed in plunkett, and offered a place but my first option is trinity due to a number of reasons. However Plunkett wants my decision and the course fee by the 30th July, and i was wondering if Trinity offers places before this date or after ?

They told me at my interview they'd let me know by the end of July at the latest, possibly at bit earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16 incywincy10
