Almond Butter

So in a quest to improve my diet further, I went on a little shopping trip and purchased my coconut oil to replace olive oil for certain things. I also got almond butter but at a shocking price for a tiny amount!

So, does anyone know where it is reasonably priced? Either online or in the Navan/Drogheda/Blanchardstown areas as that's where I'd be most likely to head to to get it.

It's rare I'm in city centre Dublin but I have a sibling there who could get it I suppose.

    Cheers

how about making your own? If you can source almonds cheap then you just need a blender/food processor

do you have a food processor? i've made nut butters myself in the past, mostly peanut and cashew. it's actually really easy. here's the first recipe i googled with photos.

How strange, I just bought some today as well and was wondering the same thing.

    Are you in my head?!??

Almond butter seems to be more or less the same price in all the shops I've seen it in- it's nice stuff but expensive. I think the 1kg tub on My Protein is probably cheapest, or you could try iHerb.com and see how it works out with shipping etc.

Like others have said if you have access to a decent blender or food processor you can make your own. I've done it before with Lidl almonds, roasted with maple syrup, and the end result was lovely (you might want to omit the syrup if healthy is what you're going for though! ;))

    Head stalking! :P
    That's mad though!

Aldi's almonds are cheap enough though I'm not sure I'm arsed enough to make my own. Especially not with my crappy food processor. It would probably explode!

While I'm here, how on earth do I use that coconut oil!? Solid mass that it is!! I bought a KTC tub as it was the only one I could find. It's not extra virgin bla bla bla but it'll do as a start!

I assume i can melt it first?

Also would it be suitable for roasting veggies? (As I plan to do tomorrow! :D )

Cheapest I've found is the 3 pack of meridian almond butter on amazon, ESP if you get it subscribe & save.

Yes the coconut oil is great for veg. Just put a knob in the roasting pan to melt in the oven while you prep your veg

This is bizarre, I was talking about getting some today as well.

Might try making my own though!

Where did you get it? (Just in case I don't get round to it!)

Coconut oil melts at around body temperature, it'll soften up between your fingers if you need it to.

It makes a great moisturiser and hair mask as well :)

Second that about the coconut oil in hair and on the face. I keep a jar by the cooker, one in the bathroom and one by the fire. The one by the fire I use in my hair weekly.I leave it in overnight and then wash it out the next morning. It's so good. As for cooking, like previously said it just melts in the pan. A little goes a long way.

The coconut oil will melt in your hand.

I use it to replace all oils. For stir fries, breakfast etc.

I got mine in Next to Nature in Navan. I got the Meridian one which I've seen in a few places.

So would a tsp go a long way? I'd only be cooking for myself with it.

Apologies for double posting, but is the almond butter usually more runny than peanut!

Just had some with my oatbran pancakes and it was yum but I'm afraid of the consistency! Seemed a lot runnier than the peanut butter!
Although the 20g I weighed out went a long way which is good!

It can be a bit runnier, but make sure you stir it up to mix the oil back in before using, otherwise you'll have a hard mass left at the bottom after you've used all the runny stuff on top!
