Trying to eat healthy and loose weight. I've started mixing eggs whites in with my morning porridge, good idea or not? Just don't want to be snacking mid morning but is there a lot of calories in this brekkie? Cheers :)

    Good idea IMO.
I don't think there is much calories in at at all ! suppose depending on how much oats you use? I only use 20g. I'd also recommend you make it with water and not milk.
I sometimes top mine with some Greek yogurt and berries ...yuuuuum!

Would recommend you try making pancakes as well (yummy)...
    2 medium egg whits.
    20g oats or wheat bran
    10g crushed almonds
    20g chocolate whey (optional)
-> mix together until doughy paste and fry in some coconut oil until golden brown...

    damn I'm hungry now :(

That seems a very small portion. I use at least double that and then add fruit, seeds cinnamon, honey etc.

Porridge made with water tastes like poverty! Nothing wrong with a bit of milk.

Everyone has different taste buds. Personally I find it nicer with water, especially if making it with egg whites or adding whey powder.

Eh ok. Fair enough. Just seemed like a small measurement to me.

Same as that 40g would be a small amount and keep the engine going nicely. With the water its like Oliver twist :D

Low fat milk in it won't add too much to it and will definitely enhance the taste.

Good idea re the eggs though.

    I assume you're kidding...! :(

I don't see a problem in using milk with porridge so long as you're factoring it in if you're calorie counting etc. Well, unless you're dairy intolerant or something!

I make mine with 50g oats, low fat milk and a dribble of honey and I'm full till lunchtime.

    But that's just me...

No one ever mentioned that there was a problem using milk.

All I said was that I would recommend making it with water.
The op was cautious of how much calories they where using, if you factor in the milk 100ml full fat is 65cals.
The op may use 100-200ml.. who knows...
Putting calories aside there is 4.9g of sugar in 100ml.

But again there it's not going to make any huge difference using milk or water, as 64 calories is nothing really.

Personally I just got into a habit of making mine with water and actually prefer it more with water then milk

I make mine with milk, 3 parts milk, one part oats. Works out around 360ml of milk.

Bought two packs of museli (on special offer)for son I dont like Museli any more he says. Now my morning porridge has become one handfull of museli plus two handfulls of porridge oats with milk and water, four minutes in microwave = result. The fruit in the museli plumps up nicely, the nutty bits being dry are not affected. I used to use a little sugar, not with the new recepie, mabey a little honey. Its a lot more satisfying this way so I guess that i will be buying museli in future.

For me it's porridge (or a mix of porridge and oat bran), Hazlenut milk and frozen rasberries / strawberries. All in the microwave for 2.30 min and then throw in a bit more hazlenut milk and unflavoured whey protien. Mix it all together and it's lovely

Slightly nicer without the whey but still nice with it.

It's delish. The taste is mild enough if you're not a fan of coconut but I am so I also add in a little of coconut oil. :)

Coconut butter is really nice too, it's called coconut creamed here biona does it.
I have a recipe for oat free porridge, main ingredients is almond butter and coconut butter, it's really filling.

Because of this tread I ended up putting oats, coconut butter, almond butter, brazil nuts, chopped almonds, some honey(not supermarket honey:D) and some cocoa nibs in a bowl with milk. It was awesome, it's going to be made again.

Tried something similar with and with a shot of milk and it was very nice indeed. Healthy as a spring lamb that :D

Can I ask how one cooks oat bran/porridge with the egg whites? What's the process?

I heat it first (on the hob or in the microwave) so that it's nice and hot, pour in the egg whites, and stir it rapidly until the whites are dissolved and you have thick, creamy porridge.

I find it I don't stir it quick enough I kind of end up with scrambled egg white porridge. Which isn't the end of the world :o but I prefer when it dissolves!
