While I'm not a huge fan of it but have to say it's better than the spinning one. It got me thinking there, I think WWE do plan to combine the 2 belts somewhere down the line and have one champion since no draft lottery is happening so maybe we could soon see last of the World Heavyweight championship? as the current WWE title looks part of the WWE now

    What does anyone think?

    Really don't see it happening.

People have been going on about unifying the title for years, and it's never happened. WWE like having two top titles for two sets of house shows. If they were going to merge the titles, they would have done it years ago....

Must say I like the new belt, I never liked the spinner or the undisputed belt.

The new belt is amazing, great story behind the creating of it also

Not a big fan of it,but still an improvement on the spinner belt.Don't like the fact that it has no nameplate either, though maybe they'll personalise each belt where Rock's bull logo sideplates are currently, for every new champion.

New belt is horrible, but better than the spinner, so you could say it is a step in the right direction, and as far as merging the belts go, as I have said and others, Vince is against it, as he feels that at house shows a world title should be defended or at least a world champion be there.

Not really a fan. If they had to change it, I kind of wish they'd gone with the design it had before it became the spinner belt.

I dont dislike it but but im disapointed that Punk had it for so long but Dwayne gets to change it after a few weeks..

God they had 18 months to design the new belt and it is still crap
WWE.com has an article up detailing the process behind the creation of the new WWE Championship belt. WWE decided around 18 months ago to retire the spinner belt and wanted to create something that was forward-thinking and unlike anything that has been done before. WWE Senior Vice President of Creative, Stan Stanski was in charge of the project, and told WWE.com:

"Our idea was never to take a step back or do something predictable or expected. We wanted to evolve the brand and create something that’s never been done before. You don’t always know what a traditional title might represent. We wanted you to know immediately that this was the WWE Championship."

WWE enlisted Paul Teutul Sr. of Orange County Choppers to create the belt, with help from famed belt maker Dave Millican. Many radical ideas were discussed for the new WWE Championship belt, including a red leather strap, a 3D eagle clutching a WWE logo and even little door hinges on both sites.

Original plans called for the belt to debut at WrestleMania 28, but the design was not ready in time. In the end, more than $50,000 went into the development of the new title.

WWE.com stated in the article that different prototype designs will be posted in the coming weeks, to give an idea of the various ideas WWE had in mind for the final product.

It took 18 months and 50 grand....to put a giant WWE logo on a black background? Jesus....

I think it's an improvement on the spinner belt but it's still disappointing in the sense that I was hoping they would go for a more classic style. This new one looks sort of thin and clunky looking or something.

I actually think the World Title is the best looking championship in the company by a mile.

Pretty cool that OCC were involved n the design process. I don't mind the new one tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

It's still too bling, and not nearly prestigious enough, I know at the end of the day it's just a prop, but still, I do like the irony of Rock saying he thought the spinner looked like a toy, then comes out with something that looks like Flava Flav designed it

Looks like it was designed by a small child.

A lot of wrestlers dont really have a logo anymore. Lets say Big Show won it, would it be that bear thing? Or Sheamus? Or Ryback? Nothing that is instantly identifiable to them.

I really like glittery diamonds. I don't mind the new belt. I always miss the belt that went in 1998.

Yeah the undisputed belt was nice. It looked like a proper championship, IIRC it only got a 3 year run which was a shame.

    Sheamus tweeted this picture
Here's the only improvement I'd make to the new #WWE Championship belt. Well, #StPatricksDay's a coming ;)

I would have thought the cross would have been the logo had Sheamus won it...it has been there since day one.

Would also have liked to have seen them take a bit of inspiration for the new belt from the Attitude era one, felt that was the best belt by a long way.

I like it anyways, maybe cuz change is good, but if the side plates are customizable I will love it.

Diabhal only thinking about having his own with Leinster and All Ireland hurling medals on his side plates.

I really like it compared to the spinner. It doesn't come close to some of the old designs, but it still looks really good and modern.

Perhaps because it seemed like just a natural upgrade from the one before, just slightly bigger.

Anything is better then the Spinner belt. That was god awful. The new belt reminds me of the Diva's championship though

The belts don't look like they are all from the same company, even. No uniformity about them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,477 ✭✭✭Riddle101

If John Cena wins the WWE Championship at Mania, does that mean they're going to use spinners as the side plates? More reason to hate Cena.:D

I suppose thats one side of it, then the flip side is all the UFC ones look the same, with the only difference being they are slightly different sized plates.

The Combo of Reggie Parks belts (Winged Eagle, IC and Tag Team) were great in terms of looking alike and being different at the same time. Oh how I miss them! :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,298 ✭✭✭srm23

why did they need to change from winged eagle in the first place?
that and the attitude era belt were great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12 sonmi_451

the winged eagle was classic ! the belts have gone down hill in recent years remember that horrible silver ecw belt they had in like 2009

It's all about money. Same reason they have John Cena debut a new t-shirt every 3-4 months.

Was the WWE.com article not in this thread?

it explained why they went the route they did. The old style belts were not recognisable as the WWE belt. This time they went for something in your face and obviously WWE's main title.

the pics of all the old belts and mentioning the belts by the features highlights this, the spinner, the winged eagle, smoking skull etc, the easiest way to describe this one is the WWE belt or logo belt. Makes sense I suppose.

I hate the tag ones more. Bronze is even worse than silver.

WWE.com also said it would publish some designs that didn't make the grade. Should be interesting to see.

I actually liked the ECW title :o the tag titles are shocking but they dont seem to bother me as much now.

There was a story at the time that DX were tag champs they were gonna bring the new belts in but HHH thaught they were that ugly they waited until after DX lost the titles :p
