    Hey all.

Can any of the more experienced people here recommend any exercises that can help strengthen or condition ribs/rib area.

Over the past few months have endured bruised ribs a few times.
So after finally healing up this time I want to try prevent bruising and injuries as much as I can and assume there are some exercises that could help?

I do a lot of core work already but maybe I need to focus on obliques more?

If nobody chimes in with any suggestions maybe the martial arts forum would be a good source for ideas.
Should be full of people used to getting bashed in the ribs!

Strengthen intercostal (and diaphragm) muscles: http://www.powerbreathe.com/product-use/endurance-training/fitness/powerbreathe-plus-medium-resistance-fitness

High intensity training (running, cycling...) strengthen them as well as the above and the core work you do.

Yeah particularly fight sports (I include rugby in that!) When I did MMA training I remember sparring 1 guy in particular that had done Muay Thai for years previously. He dropped me 3 times in 2 minutes getting me in the ribs with his shin, Ive rarely felt a pain like it. I never got to train with him again but Im sure some guys will some good insights on what to do.
Personally I had mates put on gloves and hit me (not full strength) on the ribs, I cant really say if it helped though

There's feck all you can do to condition your ribs when a Muay thai guy (or anyone) is kicking you in the ribs! Tight guard is about the best you can hope for or don't give him the chance to hit you! Far too much experience on the matter!:)

My long term plan was to go down the route of not dropping like a stone every time he got me as it was quite shock, nobody got me as nicely as he did.
I had the footwork of a zombie and I took lots of shots off him so I figured better to take the body shots rather than drop the guard and get something over the top.
The eyeopener was how it instantly sucked all the energy and fight out of me instantly
