Hi boards. I've been mulling this over since Friday, and I don't know what to do so give me your opinion. (Yeah, I know I'm asking for an opinion in AH, so sue me).

Here's the rap. I was out on Friday in a bar in the city (not Dublin). Dancing away, having a great night, a few pints and a few vodkas. All is going well 'till some douche in a pink shirt walks past, bumps into me and spills some of his drink. In my experience, these things happen, it's not the end of the world but this asshole starts giving out about it. I just told him I had been standing here for twenty minutes, and to kindly **** off.

No problem, everything moves on and it's forgotten.

Until about 2am, when the music stops and people start leaving. Pink obviously spots me on his way out and decides to land a punch into my kidneys as he walks past. I have a bad back and it spasms occasionally leaving me in intense pain so I was worried he would set that off. I decided to confront him, so as he walks away I think fast and decide that calling him out on has douchebag behaviour in a large public area meant I was safe (which I was btw). I start yelling after him, while following him through the bar, kind of like a little jack russell barking at a bigger dog, the guy was about two inches taller than me. I flipped the lid and he just kept walking away. I did shove him a bit as he walked though.

I was then escorted out of the premises, naturally, where I walked home and emailed the pub. They responded and said the incident was clearly visible on CCTV, and if I wanted to take things further, I should.

So AH, What's your opinion? Does a douche bag deserve to be called up on his actions? Or should I just let it slide as a drunken mistake?

How do you know it was pink that hit you when you had your back to him?

So he bumps into you, was rude and you were rude back and he decided to punch you when you walked by him later on.

Yeah, that's assault most certainly. I'd talk to the bar staff or bouncers or whoever (the manager?) and see if he's known for his behaviour.

In either case, I'd really try follow it up.

Oh and AH response: you're a coward for not decking him.

If he assaulted you report it, contact the pub and tell them to hold on to the cctv until the gardai can get it.

    Hard thing to decide.
Depends on whether you think he is a serial offender or was he just a bit pissed and would usually be a decent person.

If you think he was a scumbag then go all out after him.

What are you thinking of doing, getting him charged with assault?

Sounds like you're not 100% innocent yourself given your reaction.

I took that as he tried pushing him a bit to get his attention since he was ignoring the OP after punching him

You knock his drink, and he punches you for it later. Maybe be more careful next time?

So you were drunkenly dancing around in a bar, while he was walking by carrying drinks, and the way you see it is, he bumped into you? I can see why he gave you a thump.

    Op,

He bumped into you and then he made a fuss. He later came to you and punched you. That was your time to walk away and then follow it up when you got home and make him look like the ass that he is
The way it stands now, it will look like a case of handbags with the two of you - him bumping into you, you telling him to F off, him punching you, you following him and pushing him.

He should not have walked where people were dancing. If you are carrying drinks you need to be more careful.

I'd like to hear if the OP was dancing when the guy bumped into him.

Because some people think he was and I originally thought he was telling us how he was enjoying the night and was standing around when the guy bumped into him

Thanks. I admit I was rude. But I still don't think that's really an excuse. I'm not too sure if your not being sarcastic. I've been in contact with the manager.

Considering it, I just don't know if I was totally innocent though.

Not a scumbag, but definitely not the kind of guy I would call decent. The pink shirt is a giveaway.

That's why I asked, I'm not sure if I should even call it assault, and I did shove him, so maybe I'm just as guilty?

No, I let it all out online so it doesn't happen IRL.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,689 ✭✭✭Tombi!

    I was completely sincere, BTW.

In what way did you shove him? I mean was it in a "hey you I want to fight" kind of way or more of a "hey you, pay attention to me" way?

And what happened exactly with the dancing/drinks?
Was it like Honda pointed out and he shouldn't have been going by the dance floor where you were?
Was it like I thought and you were standing still and he bumped into you
    Or was it something else?

Exactly that. Didn't push that hard. He didn't trip, stumble and loose balance at all.

    Hand bags.

forget it and move on with your life.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,689 ✭✭✭Tombi!

So if that was, then... yeah, I don't see why you wouldn't want to press charges. Even if you were being rude back to him, it seems like he started it after bumping into you.

If what you said is true about that and how you pushed him to get his attention... just go ahead and request the footage for the police or whatever you're supposed to do.

If you had of kept pushing him hard and he punched you, I'd probably say be more careful but the sly dig was really a scumbag move so f**k it, better safe than sorry and let it happen to someone else

what if this person does this to someone every weekend, should he get away with punching someone all the time?

I don't see the Gardaí doing much. You got hit in a club and nobody was seriously injured. You won't be the first and won't be the last. Even if they do pursue it he'll get nothing more than a caution.

Also, man up. Seriously, don't bitch at people in clubs and don't take it personally when you get a puck.

Definitely in the "hey you, pay attention to me" way.

It wasn't on a dance floor to be fair, there is no dance floor in the place but there is a DJ. It is accepted that people dance anywhere away from a bar, stairs and tight walkways. I was in none of these places.

I was dancing to old stuff like rolling on a river and that sort. Not exactly raucous jumping around. Also, a **** ton of people went by me and my friends and the other people dancing without a single problem.

Well look, you could go ahead with the charges but I'd settle for notifying the cops and if the fella gets barred from the club/pub, I'd consider that a win.

You didn't get injured. Once he's not able to do it again and the police know about him, I think that's really it that you can hope for.

OP I feel your pain, oooooooooooh wait he never hit you, so I dont feel your pain, but I would had he hit you, (so we are bros on that 1), the problem here is (and I am just guessing) when he went to kidney you he saw the packet of johnees in the breast pocket of your blue shirt and he decide you were not as gayish as he 1st tought,

you need to forget about this episode in your life, (pull your self off while thinking of him), once you reach climax, quickly think of dame edna, win win for you, you get to forget him while getting to pull one off to 1 of the best looking wemon in the universe,

you can get kidney protectors in most local kidneyers, keep safe and call me anytime if you get yourself into a similar situation in the future,

3ndahalfof6, tis alot better than 2ndahalfof6.

He punched you and did little or no damage (as far as i can tell from your post) you pushed him and did little or no damage.

Seems like you could also be charged with assault for pushing the guy.

what if......it was completely out of character for pinkie, his just broke up with his girlfriend or his favourite pet hamster died.

What if..... The op started it all.

Best not speculate on the "What ifs" and just take the story at face value.

My advise, move on with your life. I would personally not even think about wasting police time on a drunken exchange with a knobend unless injury was involved.

The OP can go to the police but I can't see him getting any satisfaction. They won't exactly start a man hunt for an unknown man in pink.

Who is going to bar him? that's up to the pub.

Maybe getting the venue to look at the tapes could jog their memory of other such incidents? And cops shouldn't be involved at all...simply saying I'm thinking of getting onto the cops should make them take me seriously.
