The original arcade version wasn't released on the Megadrive (you probably had The Revenge of Shinobi - which is also pretty tough!)

Great game, I haven't really played too much of it up until now. Can really see where Shadow Dancer on the Megadrive got it's whole gameplay mechanic.

    43470

Level 1 boss is a pain in the ass. Hadn't a clue where I was going at the start of level 2.

1 boss is easy once you master him, walk to crack from top of wall closest him, just keep jumping/shooting when 1st set of flames are about to hit you use your shinobi, then just stay there jumping/shooting and he should be dead before he gets to shoot again

Is there any significance in shooting the boss at the end of each stage before he legs it?

definitely a lot of patterns to memorise for this one , its nice though I like shinobi but probably wouldn't be playing it this much normally.
You can manipulate what bonus you get from the hostages depending on what (I think) the last 3 digits of your score is ....

I've found the end of level time bonus really adds a lot. Been trying to fly through the levels as fast as possible.

Looking forward to giving this another go tonight.

Gotta say I'm enjoying playing games in a an old school manner i,e for score not for say plot or cinematics like we play games these days. Can bomb through the first level of this in fairly quick time but the boss is a pain in the hole, twice i've riddled him in seconds mostly I die quickly, its the timing of the jump/shuriken throwing that gets me I keep twatting him in the chest. this is fun :)

Focus on dodging the fireballs first and remembering their pattern. Better to stay alive than to get the hits in. He's quite easy when you do it like that.

Treat it like a bullet hell shmup :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

you can kick him if you're close enough too, few clatters in the head and he goes down. the bonus level is a good score hoover if you get a perfect, had over 45k by the 2nd stage doing that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

I can't finish that bonus round, I swear its running faster than the YouTube vid I watched online, can get up to 40k by the end of the bonus stage, the 3rd mission with the divers with swords is impossible

if its mame you're running on have a look in the dipswitches and see if there's an option to slow it down? I know some games have bullet speed you can adjust maybe this has something similar
