Aww crap. This was really useful!

Logged onto dlharbour.ie this morning to see what the wind is doing before I head out racing - and it's all changed.

Eventually found this message, saying they'll be taking their weather (forecasts, not readings) from wunderground.com.

<Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company regret that we are unable to continue to provide the previous online weather service due to the high costs involved in the provision and maintenance of the system. We understand that the sailing community rely on accurate weather information and in the future we will be providing weather through the free, online service at wunderground.com.>

    Booo!

sounds like it's just temporary and they'll be adding it as a station in wunderground, same data just at a more affordable level?

To the best of my knowledge, wunderground is only a (very good, admittedly) forecasting service. What will be missed here is the actual weather readings which were a really useful addition to all the forecasts available.

    Hope I'm wrong though.

Fairly sure it has actual weather station data.

Well, I stand corrected, and am only delighted to be wrong!

I hope you're right, and that they do feed their data through wunderground, although I have my doubts. But maybe I'm just an irredeemable cynic where DLHC is concerned! Again, I hope I'm wrong.

It was available for a few days here: http://dlharbour.co.uk/a/
but its password protected now :(

In DL we are now without the invaluable weather information, as the other website's wind data is not exactly relevant and accurate to use for sailing in the harbour and Dublin bay.

Wind reading equipment is either very expensive or very unreliable as we discovered in Skerries where a few gales wrecked one on the club roof.

But up-to-date reports are useful and I will always remember the remark made to me by a DMYC member when I phoned years ago from well inland before deciding to travel to DL for the Frostbites. Unknown to me it was blowing a gale as he explained with the following unforgettable comment: "Well, you'll have a great reach across to the National, but I don't know how you'll stop!"
