Lidl: Gluten Free Products ("For One Week Only")

As a person who has to eat a Gluten-Free diet, Lidl have advertised a GLORIOUS selection of products in their weekly leaflet for next week - and at much cheaper prices than other supermarkets. I was delighted when I learned of this thinking how much I'd save money-wise. THEN I read the leaflet .... FOR ONE WEEK ONLY??? Do LIDL think we only have to eat Gluten-Free for one week of the year ....??

I like to eat non gluten food when I can, just a preference.

I think it's aimed at this sort of occasional gluten free shopper, not those with a medical need.

They try to do something nice for ye gluten free people and this is how you repay them?
They could have had no weeks, how would you have felt then, well? well?

I am a chef....and once got a order for a gluten free toasted cheese sandwich.................no bothers .. i just put some cheese on a plate...melted it under the grill, put a little bit of garnish on it (Gluten free like) and sent it out to them.......dont think they have been back since

do they not give some gluten free products on prescription to gluten intolerant folks in ireland like over here?

removing gluten from mine makes a huge difference but its a part of autism in own circumstances as opposed to a full on intolerance;alcohol is the worst for it.

one of the young lads at our place gets gluten free pasta and it is fcking disgusting,thought had been given horrible cheesy pasta but no it was this rank stuff,people mocking celiac in this thread need to try this sht first.

I think the precription thing has been cut in Ireland. But you do have a point, some of the gf stuff is manure, it all depends on marketing, we need to get away from 'replacement' products, and concentrate on products that are naturally gf, cornbread is pretty good, even corn pasta is superior to the 'looky likey' alternatives. It's the same with CF alternatives, marketing is based around the same principle without exploring tastier alternatives.

Lidl has such a small floor space compared to other retailers. They use the exact same layout no matter if your in Ireland , uk , Germany and Austria. They work on buy in bulk and sell the most common items. You can hardly expect them to keep range of products that there is only a very small market for.

They have a only a small amount of organic products which I has a far larger market than gluten products

**** gluten, this thread is now about lidl selling carlsberg export cheaper than ordinary "maidens piss" carlsberg :-0 89p a can or 15 bottles for a ten spot.(up north prices)

If it helps, Lidl usually rotate their "specials" every 12 weeks or so. Though this is the first time i've seen the Gluten-Free week. Looking forward to it myself

I'll be stocking up on the cornflakes. Lidl are selling theirs €2 cheaper than the other supermarkets. I'll be getting shedloads of bars, muffins and jaffa cakes too. My daughter can't eat gluten and her additional stuff costs around €20 per week.

Theory: They want as many people as possible to go down and bulk buy so they make a killing.
It's like when you're in a foreign country and you meet some dodgy salesman who offers you something cheap, but if you tell him you need to go off and think about it he tells you it'll be double the price tomorrow.

With this ad, Lidl are saying "Get it now, come down and spend sh!tloads on our stuff, because this might be the only chance you get!"
