Think we should be well able to the 5 points. There'll be a few players looking to impress with the Leinster coaches and/or the Ireland coaches. We might be a little vulnerable at scrum time, but if Hagan and Toner can deliver the goods there we should have too much for them in the backs.

Only possible concerns: scrum, returning players (Irish squad and injuries) being a bit rusty.

Major positives: EOM, Fitzy & Ferg in the back 3, solid bench and...
    • Of the starting 15 there are 14 Irish players, 12 of whom are Leinster Academy graduates.
    • Of the match-day 23 there are 20 Irish players (22 IQ), 17 of whom are Leinster Academy players/graduates.

I bags first dibs on 'Maith an fear' should Goodman score a try.

I'm presuming that Treviso side is considerably weakened.
Edit: their loosehead, hooker, and right winger started the last HEC game vs Toulouse, otherwise all change.
4 of the bench from that game start tomorrow.

I'm excited to see that backrow in action.

Hopefully big scores for us. Would be disappointed with anything less than full points.

Am i over speculating that Fergus is at 11 (as opposed to 14 with Luke at 11) due to higher orders with Earls lined up for the centre?

Don't think its over speculating, but not really sure. Perhaps Kidney wants to see Fitz at fullback to see if he'd cover the 15 spot from the bench properly.

McFadden is not in line for the 12 jersey at all I would think, Kidney has never played him there.

No need to line up Fergus when Marshall is fit.

He has just gone off injured for Ulster.

Second thoughts now? Mc fadden must now be in line for 12 now that marshall seems to have taken a heavy knock

Pretty sure Leinster have been on TV more since the FTA deal came through.

It's frustrating that I won't get to see this game. I'm in Dublin, a season ticket holder, but have my own game to play at 3pm, and wouldn't be able to get over to the RDS in time. It would have been almost perfectly timed if it was on TV, a play match then watch match combo.

It's great to finally have EOM back, I think we've missed him badly this season. His injury was particularly badly timed, he would have gotten lots of game time if fit, I feel.

Looking to be a decent day weather wise, not as nice as yesterday, and it rained yesterday so I expect the pitch will be greasy. Still, should make for a decent day of rugby!

It is indeed a beautiful day here on Dublin's southside, and I can't see past a nice big win for Leinster this evening.

Well, Ulster struggled a little with the lesser of the two Italian sides. They're both trying to play rugby - and unfortunately Treviso can play the better stuff. I don't think it's going to be the armchair ride people expect. I hope it's a win for us, but most importantly I'm eager to see how certain players get on; EOM, Fitzy, Ferg, Madigan, Murphy etc. All within grasp of Irish caps.

Jordi Murphy is nowhere near an Irish cap.

I'd beg to differ, there's a Summer tour that's perfect for him to grab some Irish gametime.
He's had an excellent season so far, we'll have 3-4 backrowers on the Lions tour and rewarding him ahead of taking guys like Locky, Muldoon etc would be a good move.

Surely McFadden should be given more opportunities to play at 12?

Successor to D'Arcy, and should be drafted in for 6N. Marshall? Earls??

Would like to see Rhys Ruddock in the second row, think he could be very effective there since he is a powerhouse and great at cleaning rucks.

Agree about McFadden at 12, he looks good everytime he plays there. Jury is still out on Goodman for me, but I guess there is nothing more from Fion Carr now he is moving back to Connaught, shame really.

Dominic Ryan at 7. Would like this guy to have an injury free run so we can see if he really is a top 7 or not.

O'Brien's best position is still 6. Don't get me wrong, he is a decent international 7 but no Richie McCaw or Michael Hooper and I'd rather see him arriving to the breakdown 2nd or 3rd and taking the pop/offload at pace into one of his trademark carries up the pitch, which saw him get ERC player of the year few seasons ago.

Rhys Ruddock is a 6, not a second row or an 8.

Maybe if he was 3 inches taller he could be a viable second row.

Could not agree more. Very deserving of some caps over the summer. Cracking season so far.

Coughlan would be a good call at number eight in the summer. Could play the MOD role in the team.

Edit: sorry didn't realise this was a Leinster thread.

6,3' is not tall enough? Do 2-3 inches really matter if you have great technique? Brad Thorn is 6,4' 1/2.

Its people like you that would argue that you need to be 6,4 to play back row. McCaw is 6,1, Michael Jones 6,1, Neil Back, 5,10, shall I go on?

Regarding Ruddock, his play style is more suited to second row in my opinion. I can see him being very powerful at scrum time and he is dynamic at ruck clearing (important 2nd row ability) and athletic enough to be a viable lineout catcher if needed.

simply put 6'3 is not tall enough.

Second row is a position which at the top end demands massive levels of strength and mental toughness [which are difficult to find in combination in lads in their teens and early twenties] combined with extreme size [197cm+ tall, 110kg+ in weight] and athleticism.

Brad Thorn is 4cm taller then 6,3 dude. You think 4cm is the key to being one of the greatest players of all time?

Brad Thorn is an outlier who is listed at 6ft5, again show me a second row who is 6ft3. Making a comparison between Ruddock and Thorn is ridiculous.

I guess its just a coincidence that almost every lock playing pro rugby is 6ft5+ plus.

Luke Fitzgerald sets up a second, Sean Cronin runs the length of the pitch for Leinster's second try of the evening, converted by Ian Madigan #Leinster leading 12 - 0
