    http://news.sky.com/story/1052421/coronation-street-actor-child-sex-charges
The actor who plays Kevin Webster in Coronation Street has been charged with child sex offences, police have said.
Michael Le Vell, who plays the garage boss in the television soap opera, is accused of 19 sex offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.
Le Vell, 47, whose real name is Michael Turner, will appear in court in two weeks' time, according to Greater Manchester Police.
He was first arrested and questioned over the alleged child offences in September 2011, however, the matter was later dropped.
Police said that Le Vell had been charged with the sex offences after a review of the evidence by lawyers from the Crown Prosecution Service.
A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "A man has been charged with 19 child sex offences.
"Michael Turner, of Byrom Street, Hale, has been charged with 19 offences including raping a child, indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.
"He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates on Wednesday February 27.
"The charges, which were authorised by the CPS following a review of evidence, relate to offences against a child between 2001 and 2010."
Alison Levitt, QC, principal legal adviser to the Director of Public Prosecutions, had reviewed a file of evidence in relation to allegations of sexual offences and looked again at a decision previously made not to prosecute.
Ms Levitt said: "I have very carefully reviewed the evidence in this case and I have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Michael Robert Turner with a number of sexual offences.
"I have authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mr Turner with 19 offences, including rape of a child.
"Mr Turner has now been charged with criminal offences and has a right to a fair trial.
"As proceedings are now active, it would be inappropriate to say anything further at this stage."
Le Vell first appeared as Kevin Webster in Coronation Street on October 19, 1983. His is one of the soap's most enduring characters.

Evil is a moral construct that is relative and differs from society to society and person to person, it has about as much independent existance as unicorns. It's just a lot handier to say than "person commits act that the society we live in considers very, very, very, very wrong"

Maybe, but I'd take a wild guess a suggest they didn't charge him lightly.

I'm obviously jumping the gun but I'd take a leap and say the trial is just a formality in this case.

but without a set obvious occurance to everyone as to what is right and wrong, and the gradients what is very right and very wrong then how do we seperate?

If something of such sort which these guys take pride and major motivation in is not just not profoundly evil, but possibly good in someone elses eyes then where do we stand? It's just a moral guideline is common sense to me, regardless if what Moses claimed to have forged

Hmmm, he is charged on 19 offenses. That's 19 different accounts from 19 different victims. That's alot.

Tipp_Gunner, can I ask you a question? if it was me, who is just a regular guy from dublin who you never heard of, but charged with the same - would you still share the same view of "innocent until proven guilty" ?

Despite what your reply may be you wouldnt give me that.

Hopefully he will, and help to bring the high up perverts that are being protected. Do It Kev, for all the kids that are coming behind you.

Mistakes happen, and it's entirely possible he's innocent.

However, this is an extremely sensitive case surrounding a public figure. A case that was originally dropped due to insufficient evidence, but now clearly new evidence has been found that has driven the police make an arrest and publicise it. It's also a case that (presumably) originated from highly publicised failure of the police and CPS.

Factor in the Crown Courts 80% conviction rate and I'm confident in making a judgement (albeit a premature one).

Do you think they are different countries ?. Just look back at the films over the years. Actors are actors, they are freelance, the most of them are.

There is a set of guidelines in place for what a society considers right and wrong, based on the common values of the members of that society and the society as a whole, which does consider things on a gradient scale - it's called the law.

It's funny how the article uses the word "charged".
Going by the comments being made in here, you'd swear they'd said "convicted" instead.

Such is the stupidity associated with literally any unproven allegations of sexual misconduct. The word "unproven" goes out the window and people lose everything they have before being given the chance to clear their name.

Yet another argument for keeping the accused anonymous until and unless they are actually found guilty of doing something wrong.
