Competitor To Boards.ie

A pal of mine is setting up an Internet service to compete with Boards.ie.

To be fair, she doesn't stand a chance as she won't be able to pay the Staff/Mods wages.

So I was wondering...what new internet provider will put Boards.ie outta business? Or is Boards.ie, like so many of its numerous employees/mods "Untouchable"?

Best of luck to her. I believe there is still plenty of room for other sites to cater for people who may not necessarily enjoy boards for one reason or another. Unfortunately some of the other sites I've seen are just full of bitter people who've taken a dislike to boards.

Until the last few years Boards had no paid staff. As for the mods, none are paid, including CMods and admins. All are volunteers who willingly put up with all sorts of crap to ensure the site runs smoothly.

Ah, I get it now, this isn't a thread about another site at all, it's ruse to get in a sly dig at the staff and mods. Well played, I didn't see that one coming.

To be fair if she can't afford the coke and hookers, attracting mods will be a big problem. Better off setting up a rival to facebook. That shite runs itself.

Anyway, since when was boards.ie an 'internet provider'?

To be fair, her goal is to provide the same service except that you don't have the obligation to be a witty or sarcastic fcker that you do with Boards.ie.

I think she is onto a winner.

Well, do me a favour: tell her "good luck". That should get me banned for sarcasm.

But I like the persecution. It plays into my sense of self-importance.

I'm happy with chilli salsa that Brian Cox is using to describe light on the telly.

Shagadelic, him. If I was that way inclined. Geek chic. Genius and cool. Gets a bit carried away though.

    Huh? No such domain?

    Board.se is available though.

Bannedfromboards.ie is what you want, potentially you have a bigger market then boards.ie itself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,503 ✭✭✭thomasm

Is there an equivilant/comparable site to boards in the UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Sky King

You could do a version of boards for people specifically with financial questions. You know - somewhere they could ask about money?

Let me just check if ihaveafinancialrelatedquestion.ie is available.

Ehm... why don't you just get her to redo the internet while she's at it then. You get that stuff all over the place when it's user submitted content.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,318 ✭✭✭✭Menas

If she could redo the internet by putting it all on a memory card it would save people a fortune in broadband costs.

I like your business model already. :D

OP, I also suggest, as a mildly ironic nod to the origins of Boards itself, that you come up with a domain name with Cloud in the title.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,640 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

How much will your friend be paying when she eventually starts making money? I have modding experience AND I can be not funny on demand.
I can mod without being sarcastic or witty.
    Examples:
"Stop that now". <--- Boards.ie witty and sarcastic modding.
"Stop that now". <--- Me not being witty or scarstic.
It's all in the tone and the facial expressions.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Well could be a sticky in the AH Equivalent:

    'Why do you hate cloud'

Along with other popular stickies like:

'Bollocko by name, Ars*hole by nature'

    And

    'Gordon...I hope he dies'

I'd like to see boards put a concerted effort into expanding into other markets. In particular the UK where there is no good general boards equivalent that I know of.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,624 ✭✭✭SebBerkovich

I like it here, people are forced to be nice to each other or face being banned, i hope boards expands into real life....

    Oooh, bitter.

If all the people who were banned from Boards (I'm thinking of one or two in particular) could club together and set up their own website so they could all flame each other to their hearts content, then I might at least watch.
Actually come to think of it I've just described Politics.ie.
