    hello.

was looking into buying a TRX or similar type equipment to add different exercises to my workout.
TRX is expensive and I'd be happy enough with a cheaper alternative that does the same job.

my gym has a ceiling mounted TRX pole... so why not use it if it is there?
Can anyone recommend something that they have bought/used? Cheers

Before my gym got trx it has climbing rope with knots tied at intervals that you can clip the handles off the cable crossover machine onto.
I never used it (I only tried TRX for the 1st time last week) but the gym owner said its the same difference only that it doesnt impress people that like gadgets and toys the way TRX does.

No need to spend so much money on Trx, get a pair of gymnastics rings as recommended by the lads.

Theyre fairly pricey apparently. Somebody told me recently they are about €200 for the proper one. Way too expensive for what is essentially a cargo strap with handles.

+1 on rings. They are great for all kinds of workouts and I think offer much more flexibility than TRX straps.

TRX is stupid money. I got adjustable straps from this guy years ago and they are still fine

You can put on PVC piping, cover in tennis grip tape if you want, I put mountain bike inner tube on mine.

Also look at the shamrock gym http://www.shamrockgym.ie/ you get TRX type handles with that, with leg loops, they are not adjustable though, but would work with the straps I linked above.

I also see you currently get a dip belt & ab straps with the shamrock gym.

What amazes me is that so many people have bought them when there are alternatives out there that are just as good.

I think you mean suspension trainer.

I've seen supposedly genuine 1's going for €75. I know people with them that cheap & they haven't fallen apart so I can't see why anyone would pay €200.
If you have to go suspension trainer as opposed to gym rings Look at rip 60 or the AST trainer on D8fitness.ie is €60.

Fella selling wooden rings on done deal for €50. I would have gotten wooden ones if there were cheap enough when I started.

What exactly can be done on a trx that cant be done on Gym rings? I know it has lovely fancy straps n all, but Surely you can just stick your foot into the gym ring and do the same thing?

Nothing that I can think of but I haven't been able to do dips on a TRX without it eating into my arm because of the orientation of the straps! Ouch

Some resistance trainers could be adapted to be a suspension trainer, you might just need some adjustable straps and use the same handles. However some weaker resistance trainers might not be able to take your full weight.

Before using my rings or any device I do a quick test and put all my weight on each ring/handle individually, so they are getting double the normal force they would, I do this in a safe manner where if it did fail or the buckle slipped then I would not be in and danger.
