Only if Richard O'Brien is hosting...

Been saying for years that a modern version would be well worth doing..

.. provided they got the right host.

But they'd probably get someone like Vernon Kay!

Leave it alone and petition its re-showing on Channel 4, any revival will fail miserably, it wouldn't even be a real giant multi-zone set, they'd do it all with green screen!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,318 ✭✭✭Absoluvely

They did re-air episodes of Crystal Maze a couple of years ago, although I think it was on one of the obscure channels you get with a UPC subscription.

It was about the same time that they were re-airing the old Gladiator episodes... on Sky1 I think.

It's on every day on Challenge on Sky ;)

Have to agree with Basq here, I'm afraid.

It's just like with the Krypton Factor revival in 2009, and the upcoming Catchphrase revival - everyone loves the original host, but the broadcasters would rather have one of their current, younger stars presenting...

So if they did revive the Crystal Maze, even Ed Tudor-Pole wouldn't be considered for the host's job for one moment.

I reckon Russell Brand would make a good host

    Hell no.
Someone like Eddie Izzard, needs to be someone with something about them.
Brand is just "so crazy" for the sake of it imo.

I watched it growing up, and some of the repeats. Never saw the ones involving children when I was younger, but bloody hell, they put some of the adults to shame!

Eddie Izzard would be cool alright.

I'd love it brought back, but deffo only if they got a decent presenter. I'd die if they got some twat in. It'd ruin it. I mean the revamped Krypton Factor so didn't work, and I cringe thinking about what the revamp of Catchphrase is gonna be like. But I always wanted to go on Crystal Maze when I was younger

It's still shown on Challenge. FTA on satellite so no Sky sub needed. Some series 1 episodes are also on the Sky On Demand service. There were rumours of ITV taking it on a few years ago, with Amanda Holden as the host... I'm glad it didn't come back in that guise.

Richard O'Brien is almost 71 now! So I doubt he'd be able to do it even if he wanted to.

If they had the full wipeout set like they have in the US for the UK one it would be better. All the broadcasters need to do is look at the popularity of that show and Crystal Maze could definitely come back. There is a waiting list for the Wipeout show in the US

A celebrity special is coming to Channel 4 in October with David Tennant reportedly being lined up as host.

The classic game show will form part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer night, with celebrities as the contestants.

"Channel 4 are hoping to tap into that nostalgia and believe viewers will jump at the chance to finally take on the show’s adventurous challenges themselves."
If the ratings are good there is the possibility of a new series.

Looks like it will be Stephen Merchant (for the one off episode anyway), officially confirmed by Channel 4.

Digital Spy reports this is the contestant list:

    Rio Ferdinand (Ex-Footballer)
    Michelle Keegan (Actress)
    Sara Cox (Presenter)
    Josh Widdicombe (Comedian)
    Jonnie Peacock (Paralympian)

    Next Sunday at 9pm. ;)

While it may not be exactly the same show we all know and love, let's hope it helps to raise loads of dough to fund research of the Big C.

Especially when the Big C has claimed a lot of famous faces this year - and is now set to claim one of the best and loveliest Emmerdale actresses. :(:(:(

It's a pity Richard O'Brien isn't presenting it, but he lives in New Zealand now so I doubt they'd have brought him all the way back from there for a one-off show. I love that Stephen Merchant has shaved his head though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,201 ✭✭✭✭Basq

They'd a brief clip on The Last Leg on Friday.. I'm looking forward to it as I've been saying for years it needed a modern remake.

Also he's 74, so he probably doesn't have the same energy he had 25 years ago - despite his use of oestrogen. :o:D;)

Has anyone tried the version of the game in London which helped lead to this TV special.

I should really just bite the bullet and give it a go myself.

Rio Ferdinand in the above pic looks like a man who just realized he's going through a mid-life crisis.

Anyway I'm keen to see how Stephen Merchant gets on. I like him on the Ricky Gervais podcasts when he can bounce off Gervais and Pilkington but I'm not sure he can do this on his own. I expect he'll commit to it full on so he'll either do well, or come across awful.

I'm really looking forward to this on Sunday. Stephen Merchant certainly looks the part, I love the bromance between Josh Widdicome and Johnny Peacock and anything raising funds for cancer research can only be positive. Plus, I loved The Crystal Maze! :)
