HELP -fishin' for pike ?

    will there be pike in a shallow lake? (sorry for terrible terminology)
    can i fish for pike at the side of a lake or do i need to be in a boat?
    tips and recommended tackle and bait/lures to use?
    how to set up rod with floats and stuff for a shallow lake?
    will wearing a wader and walk out to deeper water and cast out into the deep parts of the lake make it easier to catch fish?
    I'm obviously a beginner and appreciate all the help i can get.

    ps: is it the right time of year?
    and what time of day is best?
    do you need a net?
