Who here has a weighted vest and what do you use it for? I'm particularly interested to hear of experiences of using them for ab rollouts.

Irish lifting has a 20 kg one for 130 euro
Argos has a 13.6 kg one for 50 euro
Elverys has a 10 kg one for 25 euro
Strength Shop UK has a 20 kg one for 50 GBP + shipping

I prefer the Argos one to the Elverys one as it looks like the weight pockets are higher up which is preferable for a rollout.

Do these vests use sandbags, solid iron weights, lead shot, lead ingots etc.

I have lead shot and may be able to mould lead ingots - so whatever vest I get I may be able to add more weight (assuming that the come with sand or iron weights as standard)

There are a couple of things to watch out for with a weight vest. I've tried a few different vests over the years and decided to pay a bit more for a few features. I found it impossible to get a vest that just had one small plastic buckle to stay tight when i was moving jumping ect. The ones I sell on irishlifting now use 2 stretchy neoprene velcro straps to tighten. Another thing I noticed was any vests that use solid ingots used to hurt when you moved around so I prefer lead shot. The last thing was that often the weight comes down too low on the stomach so it's awkward if you have to bend down, the ones I sell now have most of the weight on the back and chest and not the stomach, I must update the pics on the website currently.

Thanks for the responses - I got the Argos one in the end. It is actually about 11 kg not 13.6 kg as advertised. The weights are sandbags and the fasteners are velcro. I have used it with ab rollouts (standing and kneeling) and GHRs and it is good for both, I bought it for use with these exercises I won't be running or jumping in it. As the weights are sand I think there is scope for making the vest heavier if you use bags of lead shot in place of the sandbags.
