When your told a minimum word count for an essay of e.g. 2500 words, what would be too much, and what would be right ?

I know quality not quantity but just some advice would be appreciated.

Generally it's +/- 10% of the wordcount. Contact your lecturer/tutor for guidance as it can vary from School to School.

The answer can be too subjective to say.

But generally speaking, a lecturer is unlikely to chide the author of a genuinely interesting and well written paper if he goes even 25% over the minimum word count. So long as you're not waffling, keep talking.

That's not necessarily true. I've known lecturers and tutors who have penalised students for significantly exceeding the word count.
