I use Microsoft Outlook to send & receive my Email from several accounts.
I have recently changed to Sky broadband.
I can receive e mail no problem but I cant send any e mail ?
    Can someone help please ?

    Thank you.
    Tony.

Sounds like you need to change your outgoing smtp server settings.

Under accounts try changing the outgoing server to:

    smtp.tools.sky.com

    Tried that no joy.
Even setup the iol account again using IMAP instead of POP3 ?

Don't use IMAP, it's not that kind of account. Try smtp.tools.sky.com once again but turn on "My server requires authentication" and input your login details in Settings.

    outlook_ssl_3.gif

Alternatively, try mail.iol.ie as the SMTP as Sky might not have the correct routing setup yet since they're a new ISP.

Not having much luck I'm afraid

I'm using Microsoft Outlook from Microsoft Office 2010 & the account properties are different to what you have shown me.

    I go to account settings.

I click on my iol account. Then change.

    In Internet E mail setting
    I have under user information..
My Name & E mail address.

    Under Server information I have.
    Account type: POP3
    Incoming mail server: gpo.iol.ie
    Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.tools.sky.com

    Under Login information I have.
    My user name & password.

Down on the right I have.
    More settings.

    In here I have
    General. Outgoing server. Connection. Advanced.

    Under Outgoing server I have
My outgoing server requires authentication & the box is clicked.
I have selected "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"

    Under Advanced I have.
    Server port numbers.
    Incoming server POP3 110
    Outgoing server (SMTP) 25.

Someone over on the Sky forum suggested the following.

"It's all in the Outlook settings. Try the following which work fine for me:

    Account type: POP3
    Outgoing server: smtp.tools.sky.com
    Outgoing server requires authentication (tick)
'Use the same settings as my incoming mail server'
    Outgoing server (smtp): 465
Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL

Then when you want to send an email via your Sky account, select it from the Account dropdown."

I tried that & I get as far as a pop up box which says
"Enter your user name & password for the following server"
    Server: smtp.tools.sky.com
    User name:
    Password:

I enter the user name & password for my Sky account & the same box just pops up again ?
I also tried my user name & password for my IOL account but same result.

I'm no expert at this so I'm struggling here. Any help would be appreciated.

    EDIT:
The information I got from the SKY forum has worked.

I get as far as a pop up box which says
"Enter your user name & password for the following server"
    Server: smtp.tools.sky.com
    User name:
    Password:

I enter the user name & password for my Sky account & the same box just pops up again ?
I also tried my user name & password for my IOL account but same result.

( I enter the stupid e mail address that Sky gave me & the password to my Sky account & I succeeded in sending a test message)
    God what an effort

Email uses completely different protocols for receiving and sending mail. yours also deals with two completely different providers, Sky for outgoing, IOL for incoming. You do not have problems receiving mail, therefore, leave incoming as it is, changing it will only break it.

Your outgoing will never be the same as incoming as you will be using Sky's SMTP for outgoing.. Your outgoing will also not use your IOL account login details, (it will most likely not use any authentication) but if it does, it will use your Sky login details

I can now send an e mail with my IOL e mail address using the settings I got from the Sky forum as I mentioned above.:)

Yes and the op (like others on here with the same problem) has just changed to Sky. So the settings for sending mail on either pop3 or imap are in the link I posted.

Yea I tried that as well until I saw it was for importing other email accounts into Sky mail which I didn't want to use.

The only changes required for people with existing email accounts (not Sky Email) moving to Sky are to the the outgoing SMTP server, incoming stays as it always has been. The POP and IMAP settings are only required to receive Sky Email.

Yes, but you didn't make that clear, you just posted a link. It could be confusing to the people searching for threads

Several people have already pointed out that it is not necessary to change the incoming details.

And you will note that there are more changes required than the one you mentioned.

Just one, enable authentication (Sky details required)

    Hello.

When I try to send an e mail from my sky e mail account it fails with

    Mail Delivery Subsystem <mailer-daemon@googlemail.com>

"Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:"

It does this no matter what e mail address I am sending to.

I can receive e mail messages ok.

    Can anyone advise please.

    Using Firefox.

I'm completely confused now??? You're sending Sky mail in Firefox using Google's SMTP server, this requires your Gmail authentication (username and password)

    Sorry, let me explain.

I normally use Microsoft Outlook to send & receive E Mail.
I could receive e mail but couldn't send any.
Thats why I started the thread.
I sorted that so I sent an e mail to my Sky e mail address.

I went to my Sky e mail account which I had open in a Firefox browser.
The test message was in my inbox but when I tried to reply it failed to send to any e mail address.

This is what I got when I tried to reply to the test e mail from Outlook.

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    ________@iol.ie

    Technical details of permanent failure:
Message rejected. See http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?answer=69585 for more information.

    Sky E Mail uses Google.
Now it doesn't matter if this never works because I don't want to use Sky e mail to send e mail.
I just wanted to see if it would work.

I think I follow, as it's web mail that's one for Sky support

This is becoming a right pain in the butt

When I now try to send mail from Outlook I get

"Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

That means there is a sending limit via the Sky SMTP server - have you got SMTP authentication on or off?

It's possible it's a routing issue on Sky's end, I would ring to double check the SMTP configuration for Irish customers.

To be honest I'm not sure. It was working yesterday.
    I'll have to ring Sky.

Do to confirm if there are any issues because there are literally only 2 setups you can have, I posted an image on the first page of how to do so:

SMTP as smtp.tools.sky.com with authentication off
SMTP as smtp.tools.sky.com with authentication on

    outlook_ssl_3.gif

NOTE: In the settings, you just need to tick a box to use the same username / password as your incoming. Try both of these settings, then email yourself.

It was not so easy I'm afraid.
Spent 3.5 hours on the phone to Sky today before it was finally sorted.
Everything has to go through the Sky servers. The reason for the daily quota message was because the sky e mail account was locked.

Yesterday after some fiddling Outlook worked fine & I had no problem getting into my Sky E mail account from my Sky home page.
This morning not only couldn't I send any e mails from Outlook, I couldn't even get into my Sky E Mail program. I could get into my Sky home page but couldn't get into the e mail section of it.I was using Firefox on a Windows 8 Pc. I also tried Internet Explorer with no luck. In fairness the Sky tech tried everything.
Eventually after 1.5 hours he said he would have to ask someone else & would get back to me after lunch.
While I was waiting for him to get back to me I decided to try something else.
I have an old Windows XP Pc here which I use for storage & downloading.
I tried an old version of Internet Explorer which is on that Pc & I was able to get into my Sky E mail account. I then went back to my Windows 8 Pc & downloaded Chrome browser & I was able to get into the Sky E mail with that as well.
The reason for having to get into the Sky E mail program on my Pc is because some of the changes needed had to be made on my Pc.
After a further 2 hour session in the afternoon I ended up with setting which are similar to your 2nd photo above.

First off you have to add your Sky E mail address to Outlook.

After that Settings are as follows

    Outgoing Server.
    my outgoing server requires authentication.
Log on using must be clicked.
    User name ______@sky.com
Password. Your Sky E mail password.
    remember password is clicked.

    Advanced
Incoming server POP3 110 (iol) default

    Outgoing server SMTP 465.
use the following type of encrypted connection SSL

There were a host of other settings as well both on Outlook & the Sky servers before it ran properly. I'm no real expert but I can muddle through most things with a bit of guidance but this was something else.
The only reason i stuck with it is because I'm damned stubborn & hate to let anything beat me.

I would love to know if someone else has it working with Outlook on a Window 8 Pc. If you are not a Pc tech & you want to do this on a Windows 8 Pc then you have two choices.
Don't or else ring Sky & let them do it for you.
In any case you will need to ring Sky so that they can change some of their settings for you.
I asked the Sky rep who was working with the Sky tech on this if they had to do this before & they said no. I got the idea it was a first for them on the Irish Sky broadband system.

If anyone wants to know any particular setting just let me know & I will give it if I can remember it.

I have a funny feeling there will be more posters here before very long.

    Hi,

Just if anyone has switched to Sky Broadband and is having trouble sending mails from the Mail app on your iPhone then you need to add .....

    smtp.tools.sky.com

to your Outgoing Mail Server and then turn SSL On and also set Authentication = Password.

Then you just need to pop in your sky email address they gave you eg whoever@sky.com in User Name field and your Sky account password.

    This should sort it...

Just a note for anyone with a Sky email address. They are transferring their email functions to Yahoo Mail in April. That means that Sky will be transferring all your details to Yahoo. May be an issue for some.

Well I'm back where I started again not being able to send e mail from Microsoft Outlook.Nothing has changed on my end so it looks like another call to Sky

I'll try to make a long story short. Had to make a couple of phone calls to Sky last week (also used the live chat) and they couldnt get me sorted. The last girl I spoke to said she would talk to someone else and call me back the following day but that was over a week ago and I never received a call back.

I got it going again last week but I dont know if that was me or something else had changed. All was going well until yesterday morning when the same happened again. I could receive emails but not send. To compound matters i then found that I couldnt get logged into my Sky account online. Rang in and after being told to reset my password I got logged in.

This meant that I had to go and change the passwords on the email accounts I use Incredimail for but in any event I still couldnt send any. Rang Sky again and tried a couple of things and finally the rep told me that Sky doesnt support Incredimail and they couldnt help me any further

Then just after midnight last night/this morning and out of the blue it was working again and its still working.

    I am completely baffled.

I just tried to log into my Sky account & had no problem.
I can also get into my Sky E mail account.

My problem is I can't send an e mail using my other accounts from Outlook.
I can send mail from my Sky account in Outlook but not any other account in Outlook.
I've checked the settings at my end & nothing has changed.
I'll give them a ring when I have a few hours to spare.

If its any help I had to use my sky email address when inserting details in the various email accounts in Incredimail.

    1. Under servers I have entered smtp.tools.sky.com for outgoing mail
    2. There is a box which I ticked that states "my server requires authentication"
    3. Beside that box there is a tab "more settings" and when I click on that another little box appears and I ticked "log on using"..... and then entered my full Sky email address and password and then clicked on "remember password"
    4. In Advanced under server port numbers I entered 465 for outgoing mail and ticked the box that says "this server requires a secure connection (SSL)"

I have used all those settings for the different email accounts and as stated earlier everything is working fine today

I think that's if you want to send or receive through your Sky e mail account.
I have that in my G Mail account but I don't want to do it with Sky.
Outlook worked fine up to recently & I never had any extra e mail accounts added in Sky/Yahoo Mail.
Maybe the problem occurred when Sky mail transferred to Yahoo ?

Sorry to bump an old thread but it feels like many people suffer the same issue!

I cant work out what exactly the proboblem is because my eircom email account, through Outlook, receives emails sporadically (sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't) but its been a long time since I was able to send an eircom email from outlook.

    Sending eircom Emails:

I get some error message about being blacklised by spamhouse - I don't use emails for anything other then friends/family or signing yp to stuff so I don't know why it would be blacklisted. Also, I can send emails from eircom directly so its bullsh*t).

    Receving Eircom Emails:

This is a more concerning problem. If I got this fixed I wouldn't be as bothered with the sending issue. I have the usual mail1.eircom.net setting incoming and outgoing on outlook. Havent changed any other settings (including advanced settings). Since I moved to sky (earlier in the year), there has been sporadic downloads that appear to be getting gradually worse. I don't understand why it would work sometimes and not work other times!

Any tips or advice would be very helpful.

    Do you use a mac?

I was receiving my eircom emails grand on my mac till earlier this year and then all of a sudden, bang, no emails will come through at all. i checked the settings but all was ok. i reset it up again to make sure, still nothing!

i still getting my eircom emails to my phone, so not a total catastrophy, but mind you, my eircom email has become overrun lately with spam that i just can't get rid of, maybe 30 messages a day. it means some important stuff is slipping thorough the net
