    Hey

Have noticed when I start the other halves car that it shows this for a few seconds after starting :

    IMG_4167.JPG

Which suggests that its due a service in 90 miles or May 2013, whichever comes sooner I suppose.

The car was only serviced 4 months ago. When I go through the menu and go to " service info " and select that it shows a picture of a car up on a ramp and says service not needed for 35000 miles as below picture shows :

    IMG_4173.JPG

But also in service info, it shows a warning, I go in to this warning and it shows this :

    IMG_4172.JPG

Which seem to suggests oil needs changing in 90 miles

........but then I go to the oil menu and it says the oil is fine :

    IMG_4174.JPG

    Any thoughts on this ?

AFAIK the car on ramp symbol indicates an inspection service as opposed to an oil service. BMW break services down into every little thing separately - it's a right PITA.

Maybe the garage that serviced it last didn't reset the Condition Based Servicing computer properly. How many miles has it covered since it's last service/oil change?

    3,000 miles only

    3,000 miles only

Was it a main BMW dealer who serviced it?

Even independant operations should have been able to reset it.

BMW use a system called CBS (Condition based servicing). The car on a ramp is usually a "Vehicle Check", its very hard to find specifically what the "Vehicle Check" list is, I tried looking/googling it very recently. The best I could make out is that it's the old Inspection 1/Inspection 2 lists. So check that out.
The theory behind CBS is that only the work required to be done is done. It looks like your car is due an oil service, which is basically the oil & oil filter changed.

If you are going to stick with the main dealer for servicing then have a look at booking it through this website:

    http://www.bmwservice.ie

The prices are always cheaper than ringing the dealer directly.

Being honest, I would half the oil change service interval to 7.5k miles (12k kms) as the interval BMW specify is far too long at 15k miles (24k kms). The oil turns to sludge & can block up all the oil ways & lead to issues.

Hi op, same thing happened my Bmw a few months ago. The car on the ramp indicated that the car needs inspection. In my case a brake disk had slipped and knocked one of the brake pad sensors which is why the car on ramp signal lighted.

Apparently the car on ramp signal can possibly indicate a need for brake pads to be replaced. Perhaps ring up the place where you got the car serviced and ask how many millimetres were on the pads when they checked them (they should have checked them). You can also check this the same way you check your oil etc on the left of your steering wheel. Either way you should probably get it checked out.

But there is a different symbol for brake pad replacing:

    attachment.php?attachmentid=420145&stc=1&d=1282116027

correct and even breaks it out to front and rear pads.

Thanks sligo1.......BUT, my problem does not relate to front or rear brake pads, nor does the car on the ramp signal say something wrong, in fact the car on the ramp says I supposedly don't need to do anything for 35000 miles.

This error I'm getting seems to be just saying that some minor part needs a service and its something to do with the oil -- top up oil, change oil, change oil filter - but I'm not sure which ( if any ) should be actioned.

Ah ok, sorry my bad. Will edit my last post tho. As it was the brake disk that slipped which apparently knocked a sensor causing the sensor light to come on (car on ramp). Brake pads were fine but needed to be changed if the brake disk was to be replaced. But that was only in my case. The service signal was also appearing at the time and car had only been serviced a couple weeks before.

Hope you get whatever it is sorted ok.

Whoever serviced your car obviously weren't familiar with the CBS system. They seem to have reset the vehicle inspection interval and not the oil service interval.

The last picture is your oil level, not when the oil change is due.

I drive an e90 3 series and that is telling you it's due an oil change in 90 miles.
If the oil change was done a few months ago the garage forgot to reset the CBS computer. You can do it yourself. It's detailed in the owners manual.

Make sure the oil change was done. Do you have receipts for the work?

This sounds like the right answer alright
    Im checking with garage now

So if the garage did indeed do the oil change 5 months ago and just simply forgot to do reset the CBS computer, when do I need to tell the computer that the car needs an oil change again ?

i.e. how long should an oil change last for ?

The car will reset it to the default of 30k give or take, you dont get a choice of dates.

just remember to get the oil done again in 15k or 1 year for best results.

I also align my car on ramp symbol/vehicle check with my NCT dates as thats a good a check as BMW will give it too.
