    Read this post:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=81454345&postcount=1

Register for the offer and get the code sent to your email address

    Download

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IE/windows-8/upgrade-to-windows-8

and fill it all in and at the last screen put in the code from the email.

Your W8 key will be sent to you and displayed on screen. Download will begin.

I installed it to a blank drive and it authorized no problem.

To install Windows 8 on a blank drive took about 15 mins, using www.ninite.com I was up and running in about 60 mins.

    NOTE:

You are buying a Windows 8 licence which is the 25 digit key. Its not the software itself. Thus you can download it from:

    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/29322-The-Official-Windows-8-Repository

perfectly legally. You can download ISO's with embedded service packs in the future and use the key with them.

    ******************

Ignore the haters btw, Windows 8 is lighter, faster, more stable and easier to use than 7.

There is a learning curve at the beginning but that because its more advanced but once understood it is easier ;-)

Eh? It's asking for my product code, which is OEM and a year old now... How can this work?

Yeah, I did - it states that no proof of purchase is necessary yet the registration process asks for your product code. Hence my question.

So I do need a valid product code, from a Win 7 machine purchased within the last two months.

It's also the last day to get Windows Media Center for Windows 8 Pro for free (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IE/windows-8/feature-packs).

This is necessary if you want to have Native DVD playback in Windows 8.

Note: This Windows Media Center add-on only works on Windows 8 Pro (It will not work on Windows 8 Enterprise, go figure).

got the promo code there.. guess i'll tip down to the bank and throw 15 in to get the key

dunno if I'll bother installing it straight away though. will be doing a clean install so I'd like to have a backup win7 disc just in case..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,814 ✭✭✭TPD

So to clarify - can this be got without having a ~2 month old Windows 7 key?
I've got to the stage that they've emailed me a promo code - but will they ask for my existing recent Win7 key when I try to redeem the promo code?

as long as its a legit version of windows 7 it will work fine does not matter if its 2 weeks or 2 years old

    it's seems not.

When the order first came out you didn't need a valid product key, then after a while you did but it seems it has now gone back to not needing one.

I'd say this is microsoft trying to artificially bump up the numbers using win 8 but who cares

I got this before xmas. It went up to 30€ for a while and it came back down and got it for 15€. I haven't installed yet but it is a very good deal. My laptop was about a year old and the win7 key worked for this.:D

This seems great, thanks OP. I'm currently in the process of finding my Windows 7 product key. I found this about.com article on how to find your Windows 7 product key:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/productkeysactivation/ht/windows-7-key.htm

I have never changed the operating system on a laptop before so I'm wondering can someone tell me what happens all my data and files? Do you need a backup first and then reinstall everything when you have installed Windows 8?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭M00lers

Trust me to leave everything to the last minute!!!!!!!!

Can you use the key you recieve to do a fresh install?

You key should be on a sticker on your machine or use that link.

Backup anyway, just incase, before an install but a Win 8 upgrade shouldn't remove your files etc.

You don't need you Windows 7 key at all.

I have bought 3 licences, none asked for the key.

Can someone post a screenshot where the key is asked for?

Save the propaganda. The reality is we've reached a stage where the difference between old windows and new windows is the UI.

Most people can't measure the speed difference, the 'lightness' (what the hell is that?), the stability and many would heavily disagree that it's easier to use...

This is quite simply a hyped OS because Microsoft can't afford for it to fail so they're doing whatever they can to give the impression it's a radical improvement and a necessary improvement. It's not.

Since they fixed it it sometimes need a key. Sometimes it will just skip it and send you the confirmation email. Just depends on what information you put in

I had to install a clean copy of W7 on a spare machine as all were running unactivated copies of W8.

    Was a self build.

i ran the upgrade assistant and it went through fine, asking for cc details and all

surely it would have flagged my windows as pirated at that stage? could I just use the fakee cdkey I'm using atm?

Another quick question: if I upgrade whereby I get a W8 product key through this process and install this over my W7 install, does this allow me to use my retail copy of W7 - and more importantly its product key - on another computer?

It would seem to me that by buying W8 I have effectively decommissioned my W7 install?

When are you supposed to key in the campaign code?

I have an email for months now with the campaign code for the €15 upgrade but when I run the upgrade assistant on the computer I want to upgrade it's only showing a €30 upgrade.

got all the way to paying by Credit card or Paypal with no options to put in a campaign code to bring the price down to €15.

    From here it says:

    Redeeming a special offer
If you have an offer code you need to make sure that you enter it to receive the promotional price. When you are on the purchase screen, it will show the full price. However, on the order confirmation page you'll have a chance to enter your promo code then the price will change to reflect the offer promotional price once you click Apply.

It won't flag anything. Once you get the windows 8 key install and you will have a legit os. Google and you'll find a few threads with the details.

Can't remember what info I put in. I tried a couple of different ones just now with no joy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,748 ✭✭✭Do-more

    Thanks Paul.

I had already taken a chance and stuck in my credit card details and sure enough on the confirmation page there was a chance to put in the promo code, I would have been a lot more comfortable knowing exactly how much I had to pay before giving them my credit card details.

If eligibility for the upgrade is dependent on having a valid Win7 product code, is the installation of the Win8 upgrade limited/restricted to that same Win7 system ... or can I install the Win8 upgrade on another system that's currently running Vista?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,748 ✭✭✭Do-more

It's also the last day to get Windows Media Center for Windows 8 Pro for free (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IE/windows-8/feature-packs).

This is necessary if you want to have Native DVD playback in Windows 8.

Note: This Windows Media Center add-on only works on Windows 8 Pro (It will not work on Windows 8 Enterprise, go figure).

Any idea if there is an expiry time on this Media centre product key?

I have got the Win 8 product key but I'm not going to install it yet and I have applied for the free media center product key which should arrive within 72 hours but has anyone any idea how soon I need to use it?

I don't think you will have any problem, I think it just looks for an installed copy of windows. In fact some people have said that they have done a fresh install using the upgrade key.

    We are sorry.
Unfortunately, based on the information you provided during the registration process you are not eligible for the upgrade offer.

Please refer to the program requirements.

You have to activate the free wmc key by end of today otherwise it becomes invalid.
So ur 72hour wait is too late plus you would have to install ur new windows 8 today as well.
I have one or two free wmc keys that im not going to use so if u want one i'll pm it to you.
But u would have to do ur entire w8 install before midnight to use it.
Once its activated u can reinstall to that same machine again.
Paid wmc keys are 9.99 after midnight
