Ryan Tubridy's father Dr. Pat Tubridy has passed away following a short illness.

In a statement, RTE has extended its sincere sympathies and says the presenter will be taking some time off to grieve.

Dave Fanning will take over his RTE 2fm radio show, while Pat Kenny will present the Late Late show this week.

It is a very sad time for Ryan and his family, I really hope people will be respectful on the thread, it's not a time for slagging Tubs off.

My condolences to the Tubridy family on their loss.

Former consultant psychiatrist Dr Patrick Tubridy (76) passed away peacefully yesterday in St Vincent's Private Hospital after a short illness.

Happy 65th Birthday Pat, you're holding up well :)

It goes without saying that it's an awfully sad time for Ryan Tubridy but it must be nice for Pat to be sitting in the hot seat on the same week as he celebrates such an important birthday.

Much as we give give Tubs stick every week, our thoughts should be with him and his family at this time.

Sad and all for Ryan Tubridy and his family, but most people who don't know the family have other things to worry about wouldn't you think?

Hot off the presses: George Hook is a confirmed guest for tomorrow night's Late Late Show. Those Late Late Show researchers and bookers stop at nothing to get us the biggest names on the planet ;)

Commiserations to Ryan Tubridy and his family.

However with Pat the plank in charge, the Late Late might at least be half-tolerable this week.

    Also on tomorrow's show...

Judd Apatow, Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd talk about their new film 'This Is 40', the 'sort-of' sequel to 'Knocked Up'.

It'll be interesting to compare the two interviewing style; i.e. Pat and Graham.:D

Have to say that it will be nice pleasant to have Pat back in the big chair, for one week only.

I'd love if Pat had Tommy Tiernan on, he created a big stir on the night that the late, Gerry Ryan presented the show.

Might watch this. Never thought Id want to see Pat Kenny back at this, but its plumbed new depths under Tubridy. It'll be nice to have a serious interviewer doing the inevitable serious topic(s)

The Late Late Show thread, 27/03/2009. :)

People seem to have a lot more respect for Pat Kenny nowadays. Returning to current affairs was the best thing he ever did. I suspect that if Ryan returned to Tubridy Tonight and The Full Irish (which was actually really good), his reputation would also improve.

Every thread about Irish celebrities on here is full of negativity, boards.ie really captures Irish begrudgery in all its glory.

True, but if someone is really good at their job, they seem to escape much of the begrudgery. Pat Kenny, since 2009, is the perfect example of that.

I am in complete agreement with RayM, just look at the 'At Your Service' thread , the thread has been ongoing since January 2012 and I challenge you to find one negative comment about John and Francis Brennan. The lads are brilliant at what they do and they're entertaining with it. You might be surprised to hear that many of the people posting on the 'At Your Service' thread also post on the LLS thread almost every Friday night. So it is untrue to say that Boardsies are begrudgers.

Also, if you examine the Saturday Night Show threads, the vast majority of people are positive about the show and its host, the same is true of the Vincent Browne thread.
