This is a great Competition, however the drinking seems to get way out of hand! Harry is playing this week, hopefully he goes well.

When I hear of this tournament all I can think of is The Sopranos.

Rickie Fowler played great last weekend after a disastrous opening round. I think he could go well here.

According to the play-by-play on the PGA website he just 2 putted from 1 foot on the 7th

    Edit: Make that 20ft

he missed his first putt (20 foot) by 1 foot. then got the 1 footer back. that shottracker gets seriously buggy sometimes with the big field events.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,848 ✭✭✭soundsham

Phil needs to birdie his last hole for a 59
    25 footer for the number

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,997 ✭✭✭Degag

Phil has a 25 footer for a 59, if anyone can, Phil can!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Damn! Phil misses out on a 59, couldn't make 30ft birdie putt on the last, left it short on his second last hole.

Excellent opening round from Harrington, showing some good early season form.

Phil Mickelson lips out a 25 ft putt for a 59! It was a total horseshoe! He settles for a 60 in rd 1 of Waste Mgmt Phoenix Open.

This 16th is nuts... Amazing how they noise and crowd can get to players. Very few getting close with PW or 9i

I don't know if I like it - but I always don't like things first time.
There are s$it heads at every US PGA event - this is sort of saying yes that is cool.

Pros trying to be cool handing out things and caddies trying to be funny- golfers are not that cool or funny. Looks silly when they try to be (IMO)

watch, I will be on the piss in 3 years at it. :o

It's 164 yards so hardly a flick of a wedge, most seem to be hitting 8 iron with some 9 irons. Mad hole alright and can only imagine the ruckus around it at the weekend.

It always seems to coincide with the superbowl (well the last 2 years anyway!!) so by Sunday evening they are all hammered and screaming. It's a novelty factor for sure but not really sure of it's place in golf either.

Golf is changing tbh, gold has to meet the challenges it faces, this makes it more appealing to the mass public. I like this event but would not like to see it spread to the masters for instance as that has it's own nuances!

What time is coverage this evening?

I don't know what I think of it either.

If they could confine all the idiots to just one hole at every PGA event and crack down hard on the remaining 17 holes with a zero tolerance policy then I think I'd take that.

But that's not going to happen!

They'll have the caddies doing an assault course to get to the green in a few years.
....Or fireworks each time someone lands it within 6 feet.
(I wouldn't say no to a few cheer leaders in fairness)

Maybe that's why they weren't getting close so :D
Think I watched about 6 groups go through and I don't think I saw on 8i... was mainly 9i's with quite a few PW's.

    I could be wrong there.
My attention was elsewhere, I was embracing it from the couch.... skulling pints from a plastic cup all day, getting too caught up in the booing to stay focused on what clubs they were hitting. :)

Few quid on Phil at 20-1. Some score yesterday

It's hard to see how he's gonna be caught.

It's not the kind of course where he'd be shooting level par or worse than -3 on any given day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 935 ✭✭✭pinkdoubleeagle

Has a good record in Arizona. Course is fairly open so he can spray it a bit

He played awful last week though, was great to see him come out and light up the place yesterday, be good to see him keep going!

In fairness he was straight as anything yesterday but knowing Phil he could be all over the place today and still shoot -6/-7!

Thats the thing. If he can just shoot -3 or -4 for the next 3 days he's home clear. And what's to say he won't be shooting -6 or -7 each day.

It's always hard to see someone get caught after a round like that but I'd say you be in profit if you backed against (laid these players sounded wrong) these players over the course of a year.
16 players within 5 shots of him and still 54 holes left to play.
The bookies rarely get it wrong and he's still as high as 2/1 to win.
The field is still favourite to win in their eyes

Any chance of a prt screen of that bet? I find it hard to believe Mickelson would be anywhere close to 20/1 for this tournament.

Coverage not starting until 21:00 on Sky Sports 4?

In before you accuse him of aftertiming. He was traded at longer odds on betfair.

If the UPC schedule is correct.

(The UPC box has to be one of the most frustrating pieces of electronic equipment known to man)

You would have today yes- but unusual to keep that up. You'd imagine he will come down bit.

Why on earth would Phil leave the driver in the bag there after the way he has been hitting it the last few days??

Mad to say. But the field could be back in this.

He's using the rbz 3 wood that he can hit miles. I'm not watching it but I presume driver would get him in trouble if it hits it too far?

Na. small, very small gap with driver. Look at again. Easy to talk after. If he hit big fairway at that point with 3w he would have been great.
