Starting running to get fitter..which Runners/Trainers to buy?

My everyday addidas trainers are showing a lot of wear & tear (not unfortunately from much fast walking or running).

I'm looking at starting the "couch to 5K" and its time to upgrade the footwear.

I read somewhere that people should look at "customised" runners?

Where can you get same in Co Meath or surrounding counties? Or will my local lifestyle be able to give me sound advise?

And do they work out very expensive? ps I notice my shoes etc always wear down faster on the outside of heels if that helps with advising.

get the asics ones. make sure they have the gel in them. I don't think you would get them in a sports shop for less that 75/80 but it is a good investment

There's no straight forward answer to that one. Some like Asics some hate Asics.

Go to a good running shop Amphibian King, base 2 Race and get an analysis done so they can find out what your gait is.

Don't go to Elverys they haven't a clue.

After they've figured out your gait then you can try before you buy to see which is the most comfortable fit some runners are flat, some curl up at the toe, some are wide, some are narrow.

After that it's personal choice you may not want to spend a fortune and you may not ant bright green runners.

Good luck with it and enjoy the c25k it becomes addictive :)

Depends on the Elverys to be honest. While alot of their staff have no running background or experience there are a few. Suffolk st especially and Fonthill to a lesser extent have some guys with alot of running background that really know their stuff

(Just for the record I have no affiliation)

Base2Race is also excellent and Kev really knows his stuff

True. I was going to add stay away... as they'll more than likely try to sell you unnecessary orthotic insoles

Either way get a gait analysis done first most stores will do it for free.

thanks guys. I know a few people that swear by asic brand.

this gait analysis....excuse my ignorance, but will the same brand of runner have different options depending on various gait analysis?

The gait analysis will tell you how your foot falls when you're running.

Over pronation, under pronation or neutral

Most shoe brands will have a different runner for each so you'll have no problem finding something you'll be amazed at the different varities of runners other than the well now fashion brands.

Asics have good running shoes bu they may no necessarily suit your foot and you want to be comfortable in them.

Make sure to try before you buy some stores will let you take a short run in them around the car park or something.
