Jumped from one cushion to another in the sitting room, wrecking the place, because the floor had suddenly become sea (not lava, it was sea back then).

Getting empty cardboard boxes from the supermarket, stacking them up at home in the garden and doing shítty flying kicks into them.
Also feeling like a bad-ass doing karate chops on bits of polystyrene.

Cycling with no hands on the bars.

Playing "dead" with my little brother. Whoever was dead couldn't move or laugh and whoever was alive had to try make the dead person laugh, the only rule was no tickling, and your nose only ever itched when it was your turn to be dead >:(

Always being in goals because I didnt know how to play hurling so instead I had to stand in goals fending off flying balls. Nowhere near as fun as it sounds now.

Being able to climb onto the garage roof and climb really high apple trees. Sitting up the top of the tree waving down at my dad as he looked around to see where we were. Good times.

Played a game of it last year when the weather was good with the mam. Kids around the street had never heard of it. Madness.

Obstacle course in our back garden - a feeble attempt to copy the cool one on The Krypton Factor but fun for a bunch of 9 year olds.

Doing "wheelies" on my BMX and wheelie competitions with mates.

Parents getting a new washing machine and playing with the huge cardboard box - making it a little shed/fort. Fun with just a box for days on end! :)

Being allowed out to play on the streets/greens/fields behind our estate. Are any children actually allowed beyond their front gates these days?:(

Jamming a plastic bottle at the top of the back wheel of your bike so it made a really cool noise as you pedalled (although the friction made pedalling harder!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,324 ✭✭✭BillyMitchel

Play IRA around the block. One team would pick a word and the other team would chase them and give whatever torture to the person so you would get the letter and then the team would try put the word together.

As we reached our teenage years we split into boys and girls teams and you'd always chase the chick you wanted to kiss. So when you caught them you'd threaten to stick your tongue down their throat. If they said go ahead you were we'll in and the game would be focked off. Many of our young loves started this way!

Knick nacks to some crazy people on the road, drive them mad and get chased all night.

    I hate being a grown up :(

Ah tip the can great days, although we called it kick the can in the bog, even though we had neither a can, or something to kick. Was usually an area you had to snake into.

    Would love a game now!

Running the length of the street through the neighbours back gardens, hopping over or through fences and hedges.

Little rats, I'd say a few of the neighbours would have liked to give us a good wallop if the could have caught us in the act.

Ah, topping - brings back memories. We still say it for the laugh.

If any of my friends have had a "date night" with their bfs/husbands we still all giggle and ask, did he top you? Under or over the bra? Never gets old :)

On my road, we used to have Wimbledon tournaments every summer (Affluence). The net was made from a piece of string/rope tied to two trees on either side of the street.

Every year, when the Spanish students came over for summer, the older local kids organised an unofficial football tournament with them on the green. It went on for years!

We put coins on the train tracks and watched as they'd get melted and pulverised when the train came along.

I remember we had a form of dodgeball, called 'dead or alive'. Very aggressive and painful, now that I think of it.

We spent endless hours running through fields, climbing trees, scaling walls. Every night when I got home there would be a new scrape or bruise. I always wore shorts in the summer and my knees used to be permanently covered in mud and grass during the summer holidays. We lived by the beach so we'd spend hours running in and out of the water, usually fully clothed.

I remember one Christmas all my friends and I got bikes from Santa. That was a brilliant summer, a new different adventure everyday!

We used to play football or tennis, or some sort of game on the road, and when a car came we'd have to move to let them by. Eventually cars used to just take a different route so as not to disturb us.
