Judge Dredd is gay

In the next issue of 2000AD supposedly there is a Judge Dredd story called "Closet", in which a teen comes out as gay, and it also shows Dredd kissing a man. Here is the image:

    http://i.huffpost.com/gen/958461/thumbs/o-89442491-570.jpg?1

This seems weird to me, not because they're making him out to be gay, but the fact he's kissing ANYONE... just doesn't seem right, he's Judge Dredd!!! As far as I'm concerned he's a celibate self-righteous nutter and that's why he is the law! :p

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/shortcuts/2013/jan/27/judge-dredd-gay-comic-book

Someone makes a good point here: They could buy him being gay, but not some perp with a green mohawk! :p

Who are we to judge? I Dredd threads like this. They always attract the anti gay comics.

I don't go on comic forum, I probably have no interest in responses from there - if mods want to move it, so be it, but if I can I'd like to stay here!

    Bleedin gays!

They ruined all our best names like Bruce, and Lance, and Julian. Those were the toughest names we had! Now they're just, uh...

Dredd ain't gay. The story is about a gay club with a Dredd theme.

There was a few old progs that showed him in a relationship with a woman, forget what her name was...

Speaking as a gay rights activist, I think this is great for Dredd on a personal level, and aspiring gay comic book kids.

This just makes him even more macho. What's more manly than ****ing another bloke in the arse? Guy's got balls.

Judge DeMarco had a crush on him about 15 years ago but he didn't really reciprocate. His robot Walter was definitely gay though.

Kind of disappointing. Would have been a positive move, not really suited to the character, but positive nonetheless.

AH response: 'Gays into the fist of Dredd'.

    That's true.
I bet he's got a soft side too. I'd love to kiss his beautiful lips and ruffle his hair. He's an absolute dream boat!

No, it wouldn't have been a positive move. It would have been bullsh!t PC nonsense. Dredd is a violent celibate fascist. Homo-ing him up after 35 years would be utter gibberish.

Isn't Spiderman a Gay Hispanic now?

Where are the straight role models for our kids now?

Turning characters gay all of sudden is not positive.

It's stupid, patronizing and serves no purpose in such instances.

Dredd's not gay, that some impostor pretending to be Dredd!

That would make sense! I wouldn't give a ****e if Sláine or one of the others were gay, but Dredd shouldn't be sexual in anyway in my book!

It's bloody stupid to turn him gay (or suggest he is gay)... What next Superman is bisexual?

Aye, I hate these stupid token gestures story writers throw out now, its some kind of weird blend between attention whoring and apologizing.

More over in a lot of cases its so forced and unnatural that its just plain weird

For example the video game Star Wars the old republic they decided to make up for not having gay romances in the main by tacking on a planet where it is possible, but only on the planet ! They turned an oversight into this weird ass apology.

Doesn't Dredd age in real time, anyway? Guy's got to be 70ish by now.

And yes, making him an "out" homosexual would be at least incongruous if not nonsensical.

A repressed homosexual fascist Dredd, on the other hand, would make a lot of sense. ;)

    So that's Dredd outed...
Any word on Judge Paul Carney?

Superman is into women from a completely different species and no one ever complained about that.

    Not suited to teh character?

This is a guy who marches around in bikers leather (at least in the early days) and shows zero interest in women. He's a gay fetishists wet dream.

Great character in fairness, everyones favourite fascist.

Clearly written by someone who hasn't read it regularly in the last 15-20 years.

The only period where it had a big dip was the early to mid 90s. Other than that, it's always been great.

That's obviously a fantasy scene unfolding in the punk character's mind. Dredd has no love interests - straight, gay, or otherwise - because he has no personal life of any description. We never see what's beneath the helmet because there isn't anything beneath the helmet; he's the embodiment of the law.

But Batman and Robin are clearly gay...

Strange thing to do to long term fans.. embittered character assassination attempt?!

Could've sworn I read a creator was seriously ill but can't find anything, was in the EPG. Programme about dredd

my point was that if they suddenly changed superman to being gay. it wouldnt be right. The same could be said for an openly gay comic book character turning straight. it wouldnt be right.

I kind of called him out years ago.

Anderson was the by far the hottest Judge in leathers, fancied Dredd's ass, and he was more interested in the lads.

I agree. It goes completely against the nature of superhero comics to retcon something.

Anderson never fancied Dredd, that must be something you just made up in your own head.
