If I had €500k I might buy one, but otherwise no.

    No

    Yes.

But just like with the C6 for example, you'll get loads of "€XXXX for a Citroen? **** off".

You could take the badges off a Bentley, stick on Renault or Citroen badges and charge €75k for it and it will be immediatly dissmissed by a large proportion of people as being way too much for a Renault/Citroen etc.

I drive a Renault so it's nothing to do with it being French.

    No.

Not because it's a Citroen but because I'd just prefer a standard diesel model.

yep, coolest car ive seen in an age

yes but i-d insist on a fully circular steering wheel

Saw one in Mallow Road Motors and it's a gorgeous car. Would I buy one? Probably not... Reviews say it's not the best drive, plus the depreciation would be absolutely enormous.

Why may I ask? Just curious.

I like the idea of one in a couple of years.

Is this the one with the vibrating seats that yer wan from the eMobile ad was 'reviewing'?

Yeah I'm really going to buy an electric hybrid from a company that still can't get brake lights to work.

Mainly personal choice. I don't like the idea of a diesel hybrid mix.

Diesel is for long journets, hybrid is for town driving. Mixing the two together I don't know how well they would cope or what benefit I'd get. If I was doing lots of town driving the dpf would clog up, if I'm on the open road I'd see no benefit from the hybrid system.

That and I wouldn't trust the durability of the technology yet.

Don't get me wrong, I love the DS range. I'd just consider the hybrid a step too far for me at the minute. I'm very happy to be proven wrong in the long run.

Citroen are currently pissing me off though, they have a great range in the DS brand which shows their own standard C cars are only half finished. I wish they would reduce the price of the DS range and dump the C cars.

Looks cool actually, but for 50k there really are better choices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,792 ✭✭✭Ded_Zebra

Without a doubt but the 200bhp petrol model

What else could you get for 50k?

EDIT: It's not available with that petrol engine.... probably still have one though.

    .
Surely its the ideal mix? Diesel for the open road then the diesel gets a rest in the town stuff where diesels are poor, no?

I wouldn't be into that shape, so no. Even if it was a porsche it wouldn't be my cup of tea.

I do quite like the seats though.

Yeah, they're not 50k nice though

Id wait a year and buy it for 10grand...

    There I said it...

The styling is unbelievably cool, no one can argue that. I would buy one but only the highest-powered petrol version whatever that may be.

The interior ain't bad but I think the shape and size of it is horrible - it has no stance. So that's a pass from me

If I had 50K to burn on a car I'd buy seven 7K cars instead, one for each day of the week.

    lol yeah.

But seriously it's priced to compete with A5/A6 diesels and 520d's. I would have this hands down over any of them because 520d's and A6's are the motoring equivalent of white noise.

Its a stunning piece of design imo. ALot of the new citroens are very very nice. I wouldnt spend 50k on it though. Used in a few years for about 15k would be an interesting choice though.

Like the C6 it will be a sought after 2nd hand buy in a few years when high depreciation sets in. 5th gear tv show didn't rate it very highly at all for some reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 331 ✭✭misterdeeds

Me thinks an insignia opc would be right up my street :-) btw another overpriced car but really love the insignias .

ps: €50k "resting" in my bank a/c would be really nice .

no chance. You'd get the new E300 diesel hybrid for that!

See I see citeron and I immediately think it translates to lemon so, No I wouldn't go near it

I would not buy one as I don't like the exterior styling and because it doesn't have hydropneumatic suspension. Also, the ride comfort has been criticised in reviews

Was just reading today in the Sunday Times about the new Mercedes E Class diesel hybrid. It is 52k, is bigger and faster and has basically the same emissions as the Citroen and probably has better ride comfort too. It is not 4wd and is probably more poorly equipped than the Citroen and I don't particularly like the appearance of it either.

But if forced to spend around 50k of my own money on a new diesel hybrid I woud go for this Merc ahead of the Citroen.

Will be intersting to see what price the Volvo V60 hybrid comes in at. Plug in, faster than the Mercedes, much bigger battery, very low emissions etc.

edit: point about the Merc already made by mitosis

I can assure you that a modern merc will have appalling ride quality. For some reason they decided hat all of their cars need a bone shaker ride.

If I could afford one I,d get the Volvo. Or a anything on this page.

Wouldnt be a fan of it and wouldnt pay 50k for it. I'd buy a Q7 instead :D

€50k of someone elses money?? No problem. But of my own cash? Not a hope, if for no other reason than the combination of large+French = eye-watering depreciation. It'll be a really nice second-hand buy for someone in 3 years time.

Not true, the new E-Class rides very well.

    Dear DS5,

You are really beautiful. However your Hybrid system is diesel and your transmission is last century.
Therefore I'll see you in 2023 in the Bangernomics section

    Regards,
    A Francophile

Have to agree with this as I just drove a brand new C5 as a car rental in Italy a few weeks back. It was my first time in a Citroern and I was impressed. I doubt it was always like that with them though.

Gorgeous looking car, however for that money you have reached Jaguar XF .

Undoubtedly the Citoen could be a bargain drive after 3 years

Au Contraire - a horrific car to drive - couldnt wait to get out of it. It just rolls and rolls. New A6 and 5 Series by far better cars to drive

Again, you're actually taking the very opposite stance of the other poster. He said it will be a horrible jarring ride because it'll be over firm. You're saying it's over soft.
In fact, while he's very wrong, you're also missing the point. It doesn't roll and roll.
The 5-Series aims to bring driver involvement. You need a more firmly sprung car for this, and you need many other ingredients too, with nice steering, good chassis composure and control, good feedback, etc.
Merc with the E-Class went down the road of comfort. While some of their comfortable cars of old were wallowey and vague, they have achieved a remarkable combination of relaxing comfort and soft ride with their new E-Class while also being a car that while initially it doesn't feel like it'll take on a twisty road, in actual fact it does gather itself together very well when pushed, never pushing wide or becoming undone on poor surfaces. But it's main aim is still to be the comfortable option. It achieves this, and while folk like yourself often hop in, blast it down the road and claim "ah, it's no good... it's like a boat" you're actually missing the point, and because of that, failing to critically analyse the finer detail.
This was my biggest problem with the last model A6. It was too firmly sprung to be a car for comfort excellence, yet it offered zero feedback and became undone when hussled so offered nothing for the enthusiastic driver either. It was a compromise with no gain.
I'd also add that BMW haven't managed an excellent all rounder since the E39. The E60 just isn't as good to drive, nor surprisingly quite as comfortable.
