Diet is pretty poor, with too much unnecessary carbs and sugar.

Porridge is ok, but try having eggs instead.
Cut out potatoes (carbs) replace with sweet potatoes or extra veg.

How come you don't eat a lunch ?

Try eat breakfast, snack, lunch, snack dinner.
Snacks should be berries, nuts, Greek/natural yogurt.
    Cut out the chocolate ,scones.
Also need for all that fruit, fruit also very high in sugars

Try base your foods high protein, good fats, low carbs.

    Read the stickies.

Weigh your food and track it using myfitnesspal.com (it's free). I doubt you are only on 1400 cals from looking at that diet.

what unnecessary carbs? not enough carbs imo.

eggs seems to be the stock response. porridge is grand.

not much difference between potatoes & sweet potatoes. both are carbs (nothing wrong with that) as is veg.

    So what?

hardly. that poster has recommended low carb. fruits & vegetables are carbs so low carb = low fruits & vegetables = low fibre = constipation. not my idea of a good diet.

sunnydub recommended reducing sugar intake(unnecessary carbs) and taking in extra veg. non-starchy carbs(greens) and low sugar fruit is actually high in fibre.

perhaps offer the OP advice rather than criticising others who are trying to help.

    Utter nonsense.

how so? mark sisson says you gotta keep carbs under 150g per day or you risk becoming a sumo wrestler! 150g of carbs is pathetic.

low carbohydrate = a diet low in carbohydrate. fruits & vegetables are carbohydrates hence a low carbohydrate diet is one that keeps carbs low.

mark siison is a low carb guru who warns against going over 150g of carbs a day otherwise you will risk 'insidious obesity'. pure hyperbole on his part. i mentioned him because he seems to b one of the more popular l/c gurus.

Have you ever read a book on low carb? Have you ever seen a low carb meal? Low carb diets have a tonne of vegetables and fruits. Most fruit and vegetables are low carb.

whats tonnes? how much fibre does the average l/c person get? not a whole lot i'd say.

Tonnes = about half the plate, if not more.

Tonnes = about half the plate, if not more.

but that doesn't tell me anything. how big is the plate? how high is the veg piled etc? how often during the day are fruits & veg consumed and in what quantity etc?

you still didn't answer me on the fibre question.

If you want to get into particulars...

Half the plate is half the plate whether the plate is 20cm or 200cm. It's half the plate. It's a lot of veg. I haven't yet taken my tape measure out to see how high it is.

I'm fairly low carb. I get about 25-30g of fibre. And I don't really try and get in that much fibre, it just happens because I eat copious amounts of veg.

those measurements are subjective. i was looking for objective measurements.

25-30g of fibre is not that much tbh.

why are you fixated with fibre? have you suffered from a lack of it, you mentioned constipation?

most points youve made have been completely wrong, are you guessing?

    see daily fibre intake:

because fibre is a carbohydrate and low carb people restrict carbs. i was just enquiring as to how much fibre the average low carber got.
most points youve made have been completely wrong, are you guessing?

please explain the points i've made that are 'completely wrong'.

the rda for fibre is pathetically low.

I think thats a pretty healthy diet. If you want to lose a kilo or 2 maybe cut out the scone between dinner and tea. Also potato salad if smothered in mayonaise is quite fattening so you could maybe pass on that.

Oh good Lord., It's rare I get irritated on here but good God. If you are being that particular with the type of answers you're looking for write a detailed questionnaire because this thread is going nowhere.

*exits gracefully with all my fibre*

If you want to just loose 1-2 Kg and your doing decent exercise then you don't need to do much...

9.00 Porridge and banana - lovely
11.00 Orange and apple - good, there is a bit of sugar in fruit, maybe just have one or the other.
1.30 Dinner- Potatoes carrots parsnips and steamed chicken - grand
    3.30 Apple - grand
5.30 Fruit scone with low low butter - fruit scones can be demons... substitute to 2 slices of brown bread
7.00 Salad- Potato salad, lettuce tomatoes and ham - lovely just watch the mayo on the potato salad. Maybe some brown rice or couscous instead to mix it up a bit.
Probably some chocolate tonight. - obviously if you want to loose weight keep this to a minimum.

Anyway your weight/height puts you right in the healthy category so you don't need to do much. Don't get obsessed on carbs, if you are playing lots of sports you need carbs...

It looks like a pretty sound diet to me. No heavily processed foods in there, a sensible mix of fruits and veg (I realise this is only one day but it is all that we have to go on)
Before going tinkering with carbs/fibre and other such complexities, if you are not losing weight as desired at current exercise levels, you have 3 options to achieve your goal:
    1) Exercise a bit more and eat the same
    2) Eat a bit less and exercise the same
    3) Exercise a bit more AND eat a bit less

If you are going to eat less the obvious things to restrict are the scone and or the chocolate.
If you are going to exercise more I will not advise as have no idea what you already do.

    Good luck :)
