Can anyone recommend a protein drink to be taken to aid weight loss? Doing jillian michaels 30 day shred and one of the recommendations was to take a protein drink?

You are better off getting your protein from real food sources.

    Post up your diet.

Thanks for that I'm pretty clueless about it

Diet would be cereal and milk ( weetabix)

    Fruit and yougurt

    Soup and ham sandwich

Dinner varies from fish and veg to lasagne or bolognese etc? Need to lose about 2 stone and starting with 30 day shred on Monday along with couch to 5k

    Any assistance greatly appreciated!

    Not a great diet tbh.

Look at the stickies here and log your food on a site like myfitnesspal etc. (Don't use the mfp settings to determine your calorie needs, use the stickies recommendations or 12 x bodyweight in lbs to get a rough idea)

You need to count calories. If you're maintaining with your current diet then you'll only gain weight from the additional calories from protein shakes. If you substitute something on your diet however it might serve you well.

If you want to lose weight you just need to know how much you're eatinf. You can eat what you like and still lose weight, so long as you're in a calorie deficit for the dat.

I would definitely recommend ditching the cereal though. It won't make you gain weight, but it's just sugar ridden crap.

Bread is fine as long as it fits into your macros. Since you're only looking for weight loss then that, again, simply means keeping track of your calories.

Eat plenty of veg and try get a good amount of protein. It will help fill you up.

As opposed to the fake food that powdered protein comes from?

    As in chewable sources.

I'm not saying protein shakes are bad, I have one a day, but they aren't necessarily needed if you have a decent diet.

I lost over 6 stone a few years back, and apart from cutting out rubbish and exercising for first time in years, a pretty large part was having a protein shake/smoothie to start the day, as you are thinking about.

I mainly used one brand [Herbalife F1], but the longer I went I just focused on where I could get the cheapest decent stuff, for no reason other than to make it interesting to mix it around. [that subject been covered here at greath length down the years here a number of times]

As the man said tho, read the stickies and do some searching as there is years worth of good posts on this topic right here..

Is Herbalife not really bad for you?

Check how much protein you're getting in your diet.
If you're not getting enough, add in the shake.
It's handy and it'll up your intake by 25g. I don't see the issue with it.

Thanks bell jar, is there one you would recommend? I suppose I don't eat a huge amount of protein. Is there a particular time to take it for best results ?

Kinetica Recovery or 100% Whey Optimum.

Protein is protein - it's all the same really. Main difference would be some are packed with other crap you don't need. Optimum Nutrition Standard Whey is a good brand. Just take it to the gym to have after your workout.
