    Does it have a price?
How much is a similar product elsewhere?
    Is it an actual bargain?

google a similar product elsewhere if you so desire.

How do you know it's a good price?

Its a very good price compared to Power City ( walker - 200€ ) for example. The 3yr warranty is the clincher - a great bonus.

It's Aldi, they have an insanely good return policy, If your not happy with it bring it back.

dont forget Aldi electrical gear tends to have all the latest and greatest connections and high energy efficiency etc. i.e usb, hdmi, ci slot etc.

Yes, I'm sure it would be saorview compatible. You'll still need an aerial though.

Aldi usually sell Tevion branded TV's and I think Tevion is a sub brand of Medion.
You get a fantastic guarantee from Aldi as well so it's worth buying it to see if you like it and if you don't you can bring it back.

Do you still need to plug an aerial into the back like a saorview box? Thanks and sorry for probably a stupid question

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,129 ✭✭✭kirving

Yeah, you would. I live within sight of a mast, so a co-ax cable hanging out the back of the my TV works instead of an actual antenna.

As above. Does anybody know what file types the tv can deal with on USB.
Flyer says "play music and image files"
Is anybody able to confirm if it will or will not play video?

I think TV's in general are dropping in price. Really fast too...

I don't know, but i'd guess these TV's are going to drop to a similar price as the one in the OP, as they have already in the UK.

    BUSH 24 inch LED TV/DVD combo £149 Argos UK - (€239 IE)

    ALBA 22 inch TV/DVD combo £129 Argos UK - (€189 IE)

Those two as an example. There are loads more Sharp, Panasonic, Hitachi etc. They mightn't be your first choice for a TV, but they have been around for years, and are more well known than the unknown manufacturer (Possibly Medion/Tevion) in the OP.

I wouldn't buy the OP one just because it seems a good price. It is definitely worth looking around, as it isn't unusual for that size and larger to be around that price.

Could probably get This or This delivered with Parcel Motel.

For an extra €20 - €30 you could buy a 32 inch TV without DVD combo. Without a great deal of looking.

It doesn't seem to be a good price. It is a good price. The extended warranty adds largely to this. The alba 22" you linked to is a hideous looking TV in fairness. And your comparison to 32" is no use either. The target market for these are bedroom TV hunters. The 32" is too big for a BR in a lot of cases.

I bought a SilverCrest 19 inch HD TV/DVD Combo from Lidl for a mere 70 euro last year.

Came with a 3 year warrenty and It picks up Saorview with only an aerial plugged into the back of it.

An absolutely fantastic TV for a fantastic price indeed.:D

I was just pointing there are others for the same price.

The Alba on ebay may be hideous but the Toshiba is decent, as are the others. Also they are known and trusted brands.

TV has 3 HDMI slots, and a USB slot (USB and 3rd HDMI on the side).

DVD player built into it and its a brilliant TV for my daughter and her needs.

And all for 70 euro....cant go wrong with that.:D

Lidl and Aldi TVs are very good quality and the 3 year warrenty you get with them make it so much better too.

I was only saying it and pointing it out for the simple fact that some people think that you need to have a saorview box for saorview, regardless of the TV and its capabilities.

So hense me saying that this TV picks up Saorview with out the need for an actual set top box aswell.

All Saorview approved models are listed by manufacturer on Saorview.ie.

my mother in law got one last year. Good TV but the sound quality is poor. She has it in the kitchen - noisy hub of the house and all that - and uses two of those small PC type speakers. That said, perfect for a bedroom - hoping to get one myself on Thursday

How come its says 1080 and HD Ready?
Surely 1080 is full HD. ?

1080 is full hd however adverts from uk are frequently describing this type of set now as hd ready because it cannot decode the uk freeview hd channels using the built in tuner. It will show rte 2 hd fine as we use a different system.

This whole 1080p / HD / HDready crap really is getting annoying. It's a 22" tv. Really, who is gonna be that anal about a tv of this size?

    +1....EXACTLY.

Same thing here for me with regards the Silvercrest/Lidl 19 inch TV/DVD combo TV I got for 70 euro.

Its a small TV,picks up saorview perfectly, great picture quality,HDMI slots and USB slot, good sound and plays DVDs and music CDs for my daughter in her bedroom.

    Perfect.:)

According to the ad it just says that it will play images and music, no video mentioned. As video would be a much bigger selling point, I'm assuming it can't.

It probably can play video. I got the previous offer, the E-motion 22inch TV without DVD player. The USB was described the same way as this one and it can play video, both avi files I download from the 'net, and .ts files I record on a Saorview box elsewhere in the house. Screen size and sound is just fine for the bedroom. Like a lot of these new sets, they are a bit slow to turn on, and to switch from TV to Radio. (The RTE digital channels I mean)

I wasn't complaining - just pointing out that it had better resolution than some might have thought. This would make a big difference if you were using it as a monitor.

You could have gone and bought an LG 22 inch wide screen colour monitor from Lidl for 60 euro a few weeks ago then.:)

Just an FYI - I picked one of these bad boys up this morning and I can confirm that it does play movies...I quote from the box

"Playback your movies, music and photos on the TV directly from your USB Memory Key or USB Hard Drive"

    :D

Called up to my local store this morning at 8:45, the store opens at 9:00, and the were sold out. Bothers me a bit that they were sold out before the store even opened. There was a worker at the door who asked me if I was here for the TV's and told me not to bother waiting as they were already gone.

I went into the Naas store and they were on a pallet, not many though - only maybe 8-10. This was about 9.05 or 9.10.

Yer man in there said that I was very lucky as there is normally a queue for an hour where TVs are involved
