Yeah was just thinking about that the other day...I do not eat a lot of take aways so was really shocked that it was 6.80 for a cod and 2.50 for chips in my chipper.

Chips i find are probably the best value where as €5 for a fish or €1.50 or a battered sausage is taking the piss, €1.90 here for a bag of chips but will be monitoring.

Aren't they about €2.50 anyway? Indo really scraping the barrel of "look we're all doooooomed" articles when they're bringing up the price of chips.

I remember when you got a bag for 45p tho it was mostly the standard 50p for a chip and 25p for a battered sausage!

Think most chippers in Dublin already charge something similar?

It's about 20 years since I worked in Supermacs, but I remember the price of a fish box meal back then was about £7.00, yes, that's right- pounds, before the euro came in, for a medium drink, a box of chips, and a slab of cardboard cod on top.

I couldn't tell you the price now as I never order the fish, but I think a snack box meal is about €8.60 for a drink, chips, and two breasts. It used be £5.20, so €7.00 for a cod and chip wouldn't be excessive when you take inflation into account.

Meh, I get a nice high quality delicious large bag of chips for €2.20 at my chipper. Pretty reasonable to be honest. But you have to avoid the shíte chippers that dont give big bags.

no, with them prices, most likely a disadvantaged area of Dublin in the 70's i reckon :D

It's a euro for a packet of crisps so 2.50 for a whole bag of chips is an absolute bargain.

Think this is bad, wait till next year. The tillage farmers have been battered with a couple of bad summers. We will see the price of food right across the board soar, wheat, barley etc based products. And that is a sh1t load of food stuffs, inc feed for cattle so meat prices will go up and beer :(

    Invest in rice.

The price of a bag of chips has almost nothing to do with the price of potatoes! there is about 15 cents worth of potatoes in a bag of chips. Who needs a dark alley, the local chipper is just turning out to be another place to be screwed in!

Yep.. 2.50 in my local for a long time.

Fish n Chips are a thing of the past, full of grease and suspect fish types. Embrace nouveau cuisine in the takeaways like Singapore Chow Mein and Kung Po Chicken full of MSG and suspect meats to put hair on your chest (yes, even you ladies).

I think there might be a niche in the market for growing spuds in poly tunnels because unless we can float ourselves down to the Med, I can't see us getting good summers and time soon.

It was 50p for a small bag and 70p for a large bag when i was a pup

Shocking prices in Irish chippers. The chippers around where I live chips are 1 pound, or 1.20 for large, and you get about twice as much as at home.
It's just too expensive to do business in Ireland as everyone wants to f*ck everyone over.
