My friend wears them all the time, along with a black hat and coat. Looks like he's going to rob houses after work

Fingerless gloves (Or "Glovettes" :D) are for keeping your hands warm and your fingers cold.....

REALLY! - Well, for letting your hands cool down. I don't get it either.

I use them all the time in work.

It is much easier to type with no fingers in your gloves.

I love fingerless gloves that also have the mitten flap attachment (exhibit A). It's a pain in the arse having to constantly take gloves off to go through your purse/get your bus ticket out of your jeans pocket/do something on your phone. With these gloves you get to have the warmth of full-coverage, as well as the handiness of having your fingers free when you need to use them!

I also get to use gloveless fingers for archery.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Think im gonna buy a pair... have been wearing 'normal' gloves for the last few days when walking from the bus to work and find im constantly taking them on and off... fingerless gloves would be practical when my phone rings or i get a text message, when i need to use the ATM, tie my shoe lace, if my ear phones pops out of my ear (happens me a lot), when i want to get my leap card out of my wallet or search for change in the shop.. they're just a few examples from my morning commute alone...

I have them, prefer them over normal gloves because it's easier for me to have a smoke with them when walking to / from work.

Makes me feel like a beggar from Oliver Twist, too :pac:

Does wearing them over normal gloves not defeat the purpose?

    Precisely!

I am a hunky, manly, masculine, man's man and even I have a pair. Bought them in Fat Face on Wicklow St and I can regularly see the jealously in people's faces as I pull back my mitten flap to reveal my oh so warm pink fingers.

If I had one gripe with them, it's that there is no mini-mitten flaps for quick access to your thumbs but that's a minor nit pick for such an amazing clothing accessory that has quite literately transformed my winter attire from dull and boring, to: sophisticated, brooding, weather equipped man about town.

OP, how can you be mystified by fingerless gloves? They're gloves.. with no fingers.

Think about it. Gloves, with NO fingers. You get to enjoy wearing gloves and all the advantages of that (cozy hands, fare better if a fistfight breaks out etc) but you also you get the advantage of having fingers (access touchscreens, atms, loose change, itch scratching, feel like a Rally Car Driver when used in conjunction with an automobile, Luas door button, boxer short maneuvering etc). Heck, I even wear mine in bed during consensual roleplaying.

    Your loss OP, your loss.

    /adjusts monocle dexterously

My theory is that the warm blood in your hand from aforementioned hand receptacles will in fact, transfer to your extremities, causing an exothermic reaction.

    Good day to you sir.

Yeah, I don't understand it. I wear gloves to keep my fingers warm, not my hands. If you're only going to wear half a glove, then surely finger socks would be better?

Its the same idea as those faceless & neckless balaclavas those oddballs wear, hats I think they call them. Keeps the fingers warmer than they would otherwise be since the blood flowing in is not going through exposed areas first.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
