    Anyone here taking part?
Yes hoping to do some of it, probably the Dundalk to dublin route aswell, though dont think i'd be cycling there and back! Just the one way. Great cause, sad cause, but it needs the attention this cycle might provide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,685 ✭✭✭triggermortis

I'll do a leg or two if I can fit it in around work. Don't know what I'll be doing in April yet though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭drogdub

I'll go for the Waterford/cork leg if I can swing it at work. I like the kit too.
Best of luck to the organisers, looks like a great event

    Hey,

A group of us done a 500k cycle last September over 2days for console and raised almost €22'000 and i think we are doing it again this year,I might do some of this too,it is something that need as much help to get awareness out there as it can, anyone going doing the lot of it ? It is a great cause,

    Zip,

Would love to do a leg or two if I can get the time. Anyone know if this is likely to take hilly routes or more likely main roads through towns to generate awareness?

Looks to be fairly direct routes, so main roads more likely than not.

I'd say it will have to take some back road's to miss motorways and not cause to much disturbance to traffic,I know we had to anyways,

Thanks yeah was looking at that map but just wondering how much variance there might be. Maybe that one up in Donegal could be nice.

    Zip,

Considering the whole route myself but waiting for more details first before commiting. Would like to do it but as there will be so many different level's I'd like the idea of being able to go at my own pace. Also note the bus section but reckon could cycle that and skip the bus on that day.

You thinking of doing the whole lot too?

Would love to do the whole lot but couldn't justify taking all that time off work. Will do a couple of legs and will register for sure.

    Such a worthy cause.

I think it's a very important cause. Next week will be the second anniversary of jwshooter. Anything that helps someone seek help or talk should be supported. I intend to do as many of the legs as I can (4-6).

Might do the wexford to Gorey leg myself. Very nice jersey too

I'd like to cycle the Dundalk to Dublin leg - are there any details of start and finish points ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,210 ✭✭✭nilhg

A very good cause, I'd like to support it if possible, will try to figure out something, the Saturday/Sunday leg from Limerick to Castlebar sounds nice.

BTW there is a bit of confusion about the days on the map on their website, it would seem that the dates are correct but the actual days indicated are wrong for instance the last run to Dublin is on Sunday 5th May not Friday as on the map.

Not much detail yet regarding accommodation. Are the cyclists meant to organise their own?

The donegal route from buncranna to moville is a nice run, and the route runs extremely close to Mamore Gap, which could be a little twenty minute detour for anyone interested. The Roads are all nice around that area, quite quiet and rural.

From Sligo to Letterkenny not the most interesting of roads, although Barronsmore Gap is nice.
Think I'll do Sligo to Letterkenny and lettterkenny to moville run.
If I was to advise a donegal route, the letterkenny to moville one is the best and the next day you could head of on your own around Inishowen. Beautiful Cycling territory.

And as for the bus route day thats about an 80km cycle or 90 if you wanna throw in some pretty climbs.

Looks good, might do Dundalk to Dublin. Be a good endurance training session for Wicklow 200 I guess!

I'm thinking of doing a few over that side of the country, in addition to the run into Dublin. Inishowen is particularly nice. Need to check my work schedule and start making arrangements.

Erm, I'm probably missing something, but is it going clockwise or anti-clockwise?

It's easier to see on the large map. The dates are there, and morning/afternoon sessions are colour coded.

Wouldn't mind doing one or two of the stages.

Meant to be doing the Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle in May, but this is more appealing.

U will manage the pink ribbon and a leg of that I would say. :) Do the 90km on the 28th and you 6 days to get read for the 80km pink ribbon or the 140km if you are up to it.

I've been needing something to motivate me to get back on the bike and I think this is. A close friend's husband committed suicide late last year leaving her a widow in her early 30's with two young children and a baby on the way. I think I'll do the Sat Limerick - Galway leg and maybe the next day if I'm up for it also.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,032 ✭✭✭CheGuedara

A great cause. I'm in for the Friday Killarney - Limerick stage. Will try to recruit more for the peloton.

Was only reading this thread last night looking at a couple of routes to do, woke up this morning to hear a friend of mine had taken her own life, only 25. It's a shocking worthy cause, I couldn't but urge anyone to support it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,570 ✭✭✭at1withmyself

I'm still considering doing the whole thing, so if there is anyone interested in sharing accommodation then let me know as it'll help keep the price down. i need to go over the whole logistics first but sounds do able and something nice to do, as before though I'd be avoiding the Bus section though by cycling longer that day.

From the website it looks like they are looking for volunteers with accomodation so I think some might have to book there own. If there is enough interested I'd be looking to rotate who you share with, I've done this before and it keeps things interesting in case you get stuck with someone you don't get on with!!!

I'm based in Galway myself so would be staying in my own place but there is space for a few others if required and I do a mean Beans on Toast ;-)

Yeah, thinking of doing the Dublin to Gorey stage (based in Kildare). Then doing a couple of legs on the Wesht coast, maybe Limerick - Galway - Castlebar and see how I get on. (Famous last words!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭digdeep

Plan to do Cavan to Dundalk and maybe another leg if planning permission is granted. Great cause. Depression and how common it is was highlighted tonight on Operation Transformation. Scary to think 1 in 4 suffer from some form of depression.

I'm trying to sort out things to do the lot,I don't want to say I am until I know what the story is,going by this thread sounds like there will be a lot of us doing some of the cycle,so the party is in your place :-)

The last time I done a cycle for this cause I got a phone call 1/2 way into day 1 to say a lad I knew and worked with had taken his own life,I think most of us know someone that this has affected by this,

Maybe share there page on Facebook also !! Get it out there,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39 Spiderman1975

I'll deffo do a couple of stages but they'll take a bit of organising as you don't start and stop at the same place. I done one in Tipp last year but it was some pain in the ass as I had to an almost 150k round trip afterwards to pick up my car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 242 ✭✭instinct

I was wondering about that. If you go to Dundalk to cycle back to Dublin. You obviously have to go back to collect the car.

Or come to some other arrangement but it be a bit of a pain.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,679 ✭✭✭bcmf

Wouldn't mind doing the Dundalk -Dublin stage. I can park my car in my dads house on the sat with the bike rack so that's a way home.If we can get 4 from North County then we could arrange something to get up there and I can give a lift back.
