I know women should not drink alcohol during pregnancy (birth defects, complications)
Im curious.... A man that binges regularly. Can his alcohol intake contribute to a baby with abnormalities?
Logically..... The liver extracts alcohol out of the system and sends it to the bladder which is quite near where sperm is stored.
Then again this is Ireland where thousands of people binge drink each week so there would be a hell of a lot of birth defects.

Does alcohol affect sperm? Yes it does. It can have a very negative effect on sperm quality and quantity.

I'm not sure if this will cause birth defects, but it will affect fertility.

Was just going to post this - haven't heard anything about it causing birth defects but it's widely held that it affects men's fertility and couples who are trying to conceive are both advised to give up alcohol.

According to my fertility specialist, Smoking and drinking affect sperm DNA, smoking more so. Keep well under the recommended units per week, but there is no need to quit altogether if its only a beer or two on a weekend night.
