Time for a 21st century Whiteboy movement?

For those of you that don't know, the Whiteboys were a secret militia organizatin active in Ireland in the 18th century.

The protected poor farmers from evicition, excessive rack-rents, church taxes and other forms of oppression. More info here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiteboys

In the face of 21st century oppression and it's consequences, ie evictions, economic ruin, unbearable stress, suicide, is it time for an updated version?

I'm not trying to start a secret militia here, just asking if these actions would be justified today.

Is it time for a secret militia to fight oppression? 33 votes

You'd have to change the name, they'd have to be called "Non-specific coloured people of non-specific gender"

    It's not quite as catchy

Yessssssssssssss , flaming torch and pike time.

No. This is not the 18th century and people are responsible for any debts resulting from bad choices they made.

We in Dublin should give a **** if you think about it, all those damn farmers in the Dail deserve a good hiding.

Doesn't the history of most crime organizations begin with the good intention of protecting the community or family?

    It'll require an admin wing.

I like this idea of a secret organization with a motivation similar to what you have described, not necessarily an intense pike and torch type thing, more along the lines of anonymous. But local.

Maybe corruption itself could be corrupted from the inside occasionally, of course it would have to organize like anonymous or with some kind of cell structure like the ra did.

I think we all like seeing the odd schleeveen getting turned over.

The internet makes this possible like never before.

    From the OP
In the face of 21st century oppression and it's consequences, ie evictions, economic ruin, unbearable stress, suicide, is it time for an updated version?

So I think the idea is that this new group would identify people who are under financial stress or suicidal or whatnot and help these people by ..... and I'm not clear on this part, but I think it involves breaking someone elses legs.

Is this the revival of a historical movement or The Matrix? Should I expect to receive two pills soon? What about guns and martial arts?

Yes, I've really had it with that absentee landlord and his poncy agent with his muttonchop whiskers and bowler hat.

Your not far off. Find those responsible for the consequences forced upon the victims of corruption, fraud and political cheating and do what needs to be done. I don't see anyone else stepping up, do you?

    Our legal system? Nope

Our politicians? Nope (them being responsible for a lot of it)

    'Civil Society'? Nope

I'm open to other suggestions, if you care to offer any but many of us feel something must be done.

I'm sure those with guns and martial arts skills would be welcome within this movement.

Extra kudos if you bring your own nunchucks. :D

The bolded bit is where your plan falls down imo. If you think that breaking legs is 'what needs to be done', then I'll have to declare myself out.

Have you though much about an alternative peaceful political approach?

And join the armed struggle against oppression?

I wasn't counting on their support but if you're offering it great (hypothetically ;)). I'm taking it by your username you speak on their behalf?

Nope. Neither is this Whiteboys idea.
But which would be more effective? Breaking bones might provide some instant gratification (if that's what you get off on), but probably not lasting change.

All right. I'm in on but on a couple of conditions. I get to lead the Dublin Brigade but only on a part time basis and fit the hours around work. If I'm on operations and there's something good on TV you have to Sky+ it for me. Same for big football matches, you have to text me the scores. What qualifications do you have to lead us?
