Why are most religious against homosexuality?

    Why do people hate Jews?

Why don't the God lovers and God haters have their troll fests on the religion forums and leave those of us who don't give a fuk to carry on here with our serious nonsense ?

The thread titles are pretty good indicators of the content held within, no? I'd have thought it would be relatively straightforward to avoid the threads and post in ones that do appeal to you instead? Is that not how message boards work?

Loads of threads about religion? Maybe, it's because religion is more dominant in Irish society, than it is in other countries?

Well it makes a change from The RA, The Brits, and FF/FG.

Oh. I've been doing it wrong then. Do I have to go into the threads that don't interest me and complain?

There's always the same old topics coming up on AH, all the time, why's religion always singled out. Its a big issue in this country at the moment and there's a big shift away from the church, its relevant and there are different aspects to it that won't get the broader poster discussion from people who don't venture into the religious forums.

If you don't like a thread topic, don't read it? works wonders for me

It's mostly moany agnostics or apatheists who have major objections to these discussions on After Hours and expect most other people to not care either. That's all well and good, but honestly, I'd much prefer discussing with a militant atheist who will take me to task on what I'm saying to someone who says that we should simply ignore discussions about a subject that has a huge influence in our world (whether you think that is good or evil is arbitrary).

The mods have fallen into this nonsense a few times either, but why should this topic be ruled out specifically from discussion?

You could boil down most of AH to a couple of megathreads quite easily

    1. Dole thread
    2. Abortion thread
    3. Religion thread
    4. Public service thread
    5. Legalise weed/drugs thread

Godstirring - i like it. hopefully this is, or shall become modern parlance, a nomenclature as it were for the redundant babblings of the theist/atheist posters who carry the burden of enlightening all and sundry.
    If not why not.

All godstirrers of all persuasions, we shall not have your fisticuffs in this establishment.

Thats my whole point - I never said we should ignore any discussions. I simply said there are other forums. Some of them hosting debate with militant atheists and others.

In my opinion, most people who open religious themed threads in AH are stirring the shít.

Because it's become seriously relevant in the last few months with the case in galway. Gay marriage has also become a possibility.

And no-one lets us talk about kpmg girl.

Most of the objections comes from agnostics and apatheists. If you don't care about the discussion don't read it, don't answer it.

I prefer discussing with an atheist who strongly disagrees with me and is actually engaged in the topic provided they are respectful about it.

OP, if you're serious about this you may have more luck starting a thread in Feedback.

As for my own opinion: almost every thread on AH has a more suitable forum, while you might not like the threads I'd say until it comes to a point where they're taking up the majority of space on the first page they can stay. Presumably not every thread appeals to you and you simply ignore those that don't, just treat these the same.

True - But there is no denying the increase in God and religious themed threads around here recently. As I said, I think the objective behind many of these is to stir the shít rather than serious discussion.

    Nobody reads posts in Feedback.

My point was in relation to the dominance of religion in certain societies.

To answer your question, I would say very few:)

In fairness to the powers that be, they did seem to be clamping down on it in recent weeks but they are being allowed more in the last week or so.

Ironically enough, this is a popular excuse given as to why a religious thread is not on it's proper forum.

    'There is more traffic here'

    'I wanted a broader view'

'I won't get away with my hate filled bigotry anywhere else'

    etc etc.

Advice you could well take yourself. AH is a broad-themed forum. No topic is off-limits. There is feedback available if you'd like that changed. You don't have to read threads that don't interest you. You can simply ignore them. You don't have the right to demand their removal. That is seeking censorship.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 18,184 ✭✭✭✭Lapin

    That is seeking censorship.

One - Just one single example of anywhere I have sought censorship please.

And try to respond without insults. They demean what you say even further.

In fairness, you have no good argument at present other than it annoys you and a few other agnostics on here. It's understandable that many posters will be frustrated.

    Master of the Universe

So we move the religion threads to religion forums.

The politics threads to the politics forum.

Humanities thread to the humanities forum.

What exactly will there be left to discuss in AH?

I quite like reading AH threads on the above subjects. They have a completely different flavour to a thread in the specialized forums.

I've said a couple of times that I believe most of the religious themed threads in AH to be the work of shít stirring OP's rather than serious attempts at debate and discussion.
