Just advice - From one corkman to another

    I bought a 2012 Opel Astra S 100bhp last may
I came from a citroen c4 sx 1.4 to the current model

What i wish to have known before hand was the performance
on hills i find 1st and 2nd gear woofully under powered
not like other i.4 s ive driven and i bet the old astra 1.4
would beat the current model on take off so in closing
what ever you buy check that sucker out on hills as cork is full of em

    Hi There,

I have the 1.4l petrol GTC a year now, have the SRI version. Mine is white also! Absolutely love it, had the 2008 3dr before that. No problems so far, was a bit worried if there would be teething problems when buying the new model but none.

Despite only being a 1.4l she's speedy and anyone who has driven it has also thought it drives really well.

i have the option of the black or white
whichever trade in price is better will go with that .cant wait for tomoo
have test drive booked for tomoro

There was one parked outside my house. Bright red colour with higher spec. Looked fantastic. I would really love one of these.

1.4 turbo engine sounds like a lot of fun too.

P.s. it looks a lot nicer in flesh then on any pics.

Let us know how you get on. I'd be interested to hear what the new model is like to drive.

    will do
    test drive early morning

There is a grey 12 reg one in same garage that would be a nicer car. It's the 165 brake diesel and has optional xenons. It's also the higher SRI spec, it's where my money would be going. I looked at the same car in red at their clonmel outlet last week and it's a very impressive car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭corkcity

well ,went for test drive this morning and i have to say i was delighted with the car.2012 reg car .took it for a good run .excellent power for 1.4 turbo.exterior of the car was mint and looks savage.also alot of gadgets in the car to play wit .interior was just as good .comfortable and sporty and feels real solid .alot more space in the car overall compared to the old type astra .found the auto start/stop feature very handy.didnt even know it existed till today .overall its a mighty car so i bought it :D

Beautiful car. Health to wear. Always had a soft spot for Opels...I've had a few

Is that the J version OP? I have a 3dr Astra H GTC, love the shape, more so than the J, but slowly starting to like it, and eyeing it as possible repalcement. Only thing I don't like about the H is that ocasional clutch judder on hill starts with a cold engine.

Have only sat in one (j) at the mo, feels much bigger, is it the same case driving it.

car is a dream to drive . she is really fast for a 1.4 turbo.dont know what version it is sorry, clutch is fine in my car on hills.picks up speed really fast so have to watch it carefully .car is wider from previous astras .18 inch weels give excellent cornering and good grip on the road .your also alot higher up as well and seats are really comfortable.great car

I test drove the one I mentioned earlier in the thread for myself. It's a 165 brake diesel Sri, nicer to drive than the hatch. Hides the sensation of speed well, might be two of us with one soon!

    Best of luck with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 154 ✭✭corkcity

sri is the top spec model which is really nice ,but it has a big price tag too.would really recommend this car

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,293 ✭✭✭✭Mint Sauce

She really is quite sweet OP, might get my self an '09 or '10 as well in a couple of years.

    Edit.

Any idea why there is a marker on 130kph? Does it feel much bigger inside, and to drive compared to your older '06?

Oh, and yours is the J (2009-), mines is the H (2004-10)

Can you access the trip computer on yours? Its not activated on mine and it has the same smaller display in the cluster.

It can be done at the dealers or if someone you know has OP-COM. I must get done as its something I really miss from my last car.

130km/h is the maximum speed limit in MOST of Europe. I guess it's just a warning marker not to be exceeded

My only gripe would be the seats. They don't look in any bucketed. Which is key when throwing it around the corners.
