Samsung LED 5000 Series V AVI & MPEG Files

Bought a Samsung for the bedroom, it wont play or recognise AVI or MPEG video files ? I have a Samsung downstairs LCD plays these files no bother from the same USB. I got it working by plugging the usb into the Triax box but not ideal ! Any ideas please ? Is it a firmware issue ?
