Does a 'joe soap' have a snowballs chance of being selected for that realistically?

I've registered for it don't get me wrong but I wouldn't be expecting a call, though it'd be nice.

Registered as well, thanks kevgaa. Put in on it last year also and never heard anything back but the chances are slim to say the least I'd say.

Put your name in regardless - I made contact with a few of the reviewers in the first year and they had a ball, playing far more courses than they're asked to.

As for handicaps, one of them was 24, so they don't discriminate

    just registered as well

Was on this readers panel for the past 2 years, it is fantastic to get to play the courses and being part of the review process is worthwhile as well. Of course, the rankings don't always reflect each readers reviews as the overall panel do hold more sway.

Hoping I'll be on the panel again for 2014!

Wow you lucky so n so (jealous), let us know if you get in for the 3rd time running. Would have thought GolfDigest would try and spread the love a bit and mix up the reviewers year on year to increase the variation from the readers input but perhaps it's a case of once you're in you're golden provided you keep applying.

Not all those who were involved in the first year were brought back again, some actually didn't submit all the reviews for the courses they were given if you can believe it! I think somebody from year 1 was actually brought into the Main Panel as well so at least there is hopefully less bias on that now, although looking at the Top 10 not changing at all from last year I would think not.

Fingers well and truly crossed that I'll be on the Readers Panel again but I'm sure there will be plenty new faces too so make sure to register because all the free golf is great!

Like Jarzinho, I was on the review panel last year ( thanks to Kevin Markham mail on here) and am hoping to be on the panel again this year. Basically if selected you get as much free golf as you can play.

The last mail we got from Golf Digest thanked us for our reviews and said that anybody who did not complete their allotted courses would not be considered for the panel this year. Last year there was 40 on the panel and a lot did not complete their list they may lose their spot. Golf digest are looking for 80 this year so it should mean worse case at least 40-50 new people this year if they invite previous reviewers back this year.

    Kev.

I have signed up for this as well.

Hopefully it goes a bit better than my application for Masters tickets

Is it just your round that is free or do you get a free line on the timesheet to review the courses?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭thewobbler

In year 1 (might have changed last year), most courses gave complimentaries for your playing partners, and some gave reduced rates.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 267 ✭✭Grudle

Do you need a GUI handicap to do this?

Registration form says to make sure you fill in all fields if you want to be a reviewer?

    Thanks

Email also states that a number of reviewers from last year will be continuing this year and don't need to attend the meeting in Knightsbrook. Don't see why they're continuing with reviewers from last year, given that it is the reviewers that are the variable aspect in the ratings why not select a fresh group and spread the benefits? It might mix up some of the rankings also.

Granted you can have good and bad reviewers with the good being reliable, reviewing a large number of courses and writing good reviews and these should be rewarded but that's hardly fair on the rest of us who can't get in.

You never know, we might manage to get a mini boards outing in Knightsbridge on the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭lowelife

Oh its going to be a long day waiting to know if I will be able to get lots of free golf, and my chance to nit pick a few courses :)

Presumably the idea being that they don't want to mix up the rankings yearly but want to fine-tune them.

In other words, pick some reviewers, see the quality and knowledge in the reviews, hold on to the ones that talk an iota of sense for the year after and fill up the other positions with a new batch. Year on year there should be less positions available.

At least this is how I would recruit if it were me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 652 ✭✭✭stringy

    yep, me too.

few free rounds on nice courses would be great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,518 ✭✭✭✭Rikand

Raging - My Masters Exams either side of that weekend. There's no way I can devote an entire Sunday to it that week. Oh well, Will try again next year :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭kevgaa

    Hi,

Yeah standard mail alright to see who is available. As already stated they will keep last years reviewers of which I am one. We were told last year only the reviewers who completed their allocated courses would be eligible for this years panel. ( Lets hope I get in again)

Plus the reason for not attending the session is

    1). repetition for them
2). Getting 80 golfers out in knightsbrook will also be a challenge.

Also last year the panel was 40 odd this year its 80 according to the site so a lot of places up for grabs.

    Kev.

I was assuming from the mail that they would be contacting everyone, not just the people that made it?

Ah crap, no mail for me. He must be sending the rejection e-mails now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 321 ✭✭kevgaa

According to the site you will be allocated 10 courses in your area to play and once you have them completed you can ask for more. The major point is you will only get free golf on your allocated courses.

Did you get your official invite to Knightsbrook or is it the generic mail we all got this morning to see if we are available?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭Goldenjohn

Don't despair...I only received the 1 email this morning, as kevgaa said I'm taking it as no news is good news..... If this goes boobies up at this stage I'll prob cry myself to sleep tonight though, although no matter what happens I'll just turn up at knightsbrook with my golf clubs in 1 hand and a baseball bat in the other, surely they wouldn't turn me away then???

    Good morning from Golf Digest,:D

Thank you for registering with us to become a course reviewer for our Top 100 Rankings. We had a large volume of entries again this year and it is not possible for us to include everyone.:D

I am sorry to say that you have not been selected this year. :(

How do next year, that's 3 times in as many years now that I've got the rejection, not fair. God dammit anyway, thought there was a possibility this year with the increased number of reviewers. Guess I should have included a brown envelope with my registration.
