I only realized the other day that Fauxlivia and Lincoln are 21yrs older than our Peter & Olivia.

It's a good trailer. Going to be emotional, I think. :(

Still haven't watched a trailer so all good. :)

Everyone staying up to watch. I'll probably be a lightweight and just record it. Of course I say that now but things will probably change. :)

And like I've said every week, I'm still predicting a reset button to be hit.

I'm out tonight, so i'll watch it tomorrow evening. Can't wait to see what happens, and i've a feeling it's going to be sad, with an overall happy (if kind of bleak) ending.

Really conflicted about whether I should watch it on Sky or just wait until tomorrow. I can't stand watching a show with ads, I think it ruins a show, havn't watched a show on tv with ads in a long long time.

I'll just watch it when I wake up, doubt I'll be surfing the net when I'm asleep so can avoid spoilers :p

Also, I don't want it to end :(

What a fantastic way to end the series. That last shot pretty much says it all. I bawled my eyes out.

    Brilliant...anything else? :)

Gonna miss Walter, best character I've seen in a long time. That last seen with Peter and the tulip, can't help but think that there's more. Just wishful thinking I guess

Yeah he's an amazing actor . They did seem to leave it open at the end. Never say never ;)

Fantastic finale. Very sad to see it go!

Does it make sense though? If the Observers never existed they would never have stopped Walternate from finding the cure & there would be no Peter in this Universe as he would have died.

Big budget my hole. Seemed like two regular episodes to me.

Two episodes that were oh-so-flippin-good though, but I thought the ending was a bit abrupt.

I can see myself starting back at episode 1 and watching all 99 again. Eventually. :)

The finale was pretty good, but not as epic as i hoped....production value wise it looked rather cheap. Based on the hype i was expecting a very different show end, like movie level stuff.....this felt lke a show had its budget severely slashed.

Very emotional and heartfelt end, beautufully acted scenes by Noble and Jackson....John Noble needs to award recogintion by someone FGS!
I'm looking around the net, the finale is a devisive and fan faction splitting as the Lost finale, so loved ir and some hated it.

Plotholes and paradoxes aplenty, confusion what which verse got reset, if Olivia/Peter remembered Walter in those final scenes, i had to Google that white tulip to remember the context off it, but i get it now.

Loads of nods to episodes past, for fan reasons i'll give it a 4/5....but if it take my fan hat off and look to spectacle and entertainment vale i'd give it a 2.5/5

Overall i skipped season 5, but watched every single ep. through S1-4, season 3 still remains epic imo!, maybe my lost context of S05E01 - S05E11 is coloring things.....but i just wanted.....more.

+1 .....my longwinded synopsis you summed up in a few words :)
I go so far to say the budget was much cheaper then plenty of other Fringe episodes from seasons past.....it looked VERY cheap._

I voted option 2, good but expected more.

What was the significance of the white tulip. I know it was was the title of the Peter Weller time travelling episode. But I think im missing something......

Possibilities, i took it as Walter saying....i'm sorry for starting all this in the first place, i did what i did because i loved you and couldnt let go, but i sacrificed myself for you and Olivia and Etta to be together, remember me.

yeah that was my thinking also, i was reading on another forum that Walter and Michael would have stopped the emotionless observers coming from the future to take over the past, the idea of Michael being so smart while retaining his emotions allowed the observers to still exist but not be aggressive, they would still come back through time to observe the past, but they wouldn't hatch a plan to taken over,

they would care about where they came from, September probably would have still been curious to see Walternate cure peter and distract him again, the observers were never aggressive and even September said to December that they didn't realize what the plan was, they simply believed they were coming back to observe the past, and see where they came from, but were obviously lied to, so while they came back observing, the rest came later to take over,

its a head wrecking paradox, but my thinking of it is that our descendants still have to come back and influence our present in order to maintain the future, my main point of concern is the next time it rolls around to 2167 (of whatever year it was) who will be there to show that Norwegian fella what he should do instead of what he done,

it signifies forgiveness, from Walter to Peter, walter considered his time with peter stolen, as much as he loves him he still wanted to be forgiven, that was my interpretation anyway,

I didn't hear anything about the budget, was something said?

    5.12 and 5.13

AltOlivia's coat was awesome. Her and Lee waiting to shoot the incoming Observer after Olivia made her third jump to...OK, but it's TV. Nice to see Olivia can still carry an episode. Chelsea Clinton - POTUS nomination - heh, didn't see that one coming.

Not often you see Windmark a bit shaken up. Credit to Broyles - 'the feeling is mutual.'

Tumour inducing phone. :D And o hai, Gene. :D Plus, chestbursting...

Best scene? Walter and Peter watching the tape. :( Or the Walter/Astrid scene. Weakest? The shootout. Improved once Windmark went, and with Walter and September's sacrifices. And the second last scene comes full circle to 5.01 in the park, iirc.

    Thanks, Fringe.

in order to get a 5th and final season the budget had to be slashed as FOX said they were losing money on Fringe, thus the lack of new urban locations, fancy offices, a lot less secondary cast, a lot of time in walters lab, a lot car parks, and open areas, they done well with what they had, but it was obvious funds were short in parts,

Oh yeah, I heard that - just that the budget mention above made me wonder was a big (ish, or bigger) budget promised for the finale, specifically?

“It is called ‘An Enemy of Fate,’” series boss J.H. Wyman shared with TVLine on the red carpet.

Episode 100 is the second of two hours airing on Friday, Jan. 18.

And while Wyman leading up to and throughout this final season has repeatedly stressed the emotional stakes for Peter, Olivia, Walter et al during these last 13 episodes, make no mistake — this show is going out with a literal bang as well.

“It’s definitely the biggest season finale we’ve ever had,” Wyman promised. “It’s the most expensive…. It’s massive, really big. I wanted to go out like, ‘Wow, how did they do that?’”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,849 ✭✭✭Redisle

I agree that it didn't feel big budget. It felt like two normal episodes with a normal ending! Perhaps too abrupt an ending for the series! I think it could have benefited from some kind of rewind/recap scene in between the wormhole scene and the Etta scene, that would have finalized things in a better way. Like a fast forwarded rewind type thing!

It was actually very Inception like too, focusing on that scene with Etta constantly and eventually actually catching her.

This is a possibility alright. The other possibility is that because Michael/Walter were living in the future where the science team would be sent from they could ensure that the team was sent in the same way to prevent the past from being changed. Argh, I guess we could argue about time travel paradoxes all day so not much point really.

Nothing special for me I'm afraid.
Very disappointed with the ending, it was so predictable, I was expecting much more.

Probably one of the loveliest scenes in this show (and perhaps any show from recent memory) was Walter finally getting Astrid's name right - after 5 seasons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,123 ✭✭✭Sarn

I find with a lot of finales, I don't really know what to expect. It's better not to build it up too much, just in case. In this case I liked all the nods back to previous episodes, linking all of their past fringe events. The emotional moments also worked well. It was good, but just seemed to be two regular (good) episodes.

I'm glad they unearthed Olivia's powers. They certainly could have come in handy when combating the observers. The reset at the end was just enough, if they'd spent more time on it, it would have lost impact.

Ah well, another one bites the dust.

Only time he seemed to get her name right were when he was annoyed or when old Walter was coming through.

I thought it was a good couple of episodes. The years were kind to the AU team.

As for the budget, when you look at it, they threw in multiple Fringe events when only one or 2 would've occurred before and the wormhole and firefights. So it was more the quantity of effects than quality.

Speaking of the firfight, did anyone else find it stupid when they'd keep running in down the middle of the shooting?

Wonder who out of this show will be first to get a decent new role.

Oddly enough during this scene I got some dirt in my eye so it was a little hazy...

Loads of nice moments but overall a really meh finale. It hurts to see a show I loved so much go out on such a whimper. Sorry but they had so much to work with going into those last two episodes and came up with something extremely ordinary which will always tarnish what has been a really great show.

I was thinking of an alternate ending... Peter finds the white tulip, and along with olivia, astrid and Etta, go to the lab and discover the video and watch it. As it dawns on them what has happened, flashbacks occur of their time together with Walter, and the ending would be the video coming to the end as the screen cuts to black..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,267 ✭✭✭opr

I do want to see a spin off of Walter and Michael living in the future or past if you view it like that :)

There was one thing I didn't get, did Walter cease to exist in 2015 or was he completely wiped out from their memories? If so how'd Peter explain where he came from?
Or does Peter wake up in 2015 and jus forget Walter?

  • Posts: 0 CMod ✭✭✭✭ Boone Obedient Fatigues

It said in the video "you'll wake up and then I won't be here", so ceasing to exist only, not bad memories
What was with michael and his finger over his lips, was that connected with olivia and her sad looks when peter was playing with etta in the happy ending?
