Then I saw these, but they only work 1 metre away so not sure if they will work if my phone is on the floor.

They are bluetooth so should work from 10m away

The review on Amazon says otherwise.

only thing that would mabye bother customers is it's range between phone and headset which is about a meter. But for running ,walking etc these are top class and phone function works well to . Worth the higher price

Seems to give a good review, cheaper and I see a review of someone that has connected an ipad so maybe iphone 5 will work too

    Thanks.

But you'll put it beside your head to make a call? Your phone isn't the only thing transmitting wirelessly, and bluetooth earphones also depend on a wireless connection right bedise your head too.

I'd go with the bluetooth either way, since it's neater than armbands and wires.

I have these and I think they're great but I don't think they are probably what the OP is looking for. I tend not to use them with weights just cardio as the way they work is the unit clips to your shirt so there is a wire form your shirt to your ears.

The range on them is really good. I have left the phone downstairs and the headphones are still playing upstairs.

I use them with Android and they work fine.

My partner uses a pair of these with his iphone but as iOS doesn't implement the full bluetooth protocall they can be a bit buggy. Failing to connect properly etc.

Can you not just get a pair of gym shorts with pockets?

I just keep mine in my pocket with in ear headphones connected. Wear the headphone wire inside your tshirt so it doesn't get caught and away you go!

No need to be forking out for wireless headphones

+1 on this BUT.... Make sure your phone wont fall out. I damn near dropped a 34kg DB on my brand new phone after it fell on the floor while I was lying on the bench doing presses. Soooo very close to being very expensive !

I have an Ipod Nano just for music.

Light, small. (long battery life) Sync's easily with your iTunes. Many more carrying options.

And if you break it you can get another, no big deal.

I'm a sweater and I workout every day till I'm drenched so I need something almost disposable.

As other have said just use a pocket. If you're really that worried about radiation just put it into flight mode for the duration of your workout. Added bonus that you won't be disturbed

You need to hire a butler to come to the gym with you and hold towel, water and the vital iphone

You can afford an iPhone 5 but can't afford a pants/shorts with pockets?

Firstly, my phone is paid for by my job. Secondly, I wear leggings which have no pockets in them. I had cancer so try to avoid radiation hence not wearing a phone near my ovaries, on my arm etc.

I listen to college podcasts on my phone as I use this time to try to catch up on college work and therefore am trying to find the easiest way to do this.

Thank you! I wasn't aware your phone doesn't give off radiation while in flight mode. Are you sure?

Why not get one of those things that go on your arms then? You might have one posted in the link above but there just an idea.,

I'd rather not have my phone right on my body for an hour, 5 times a week. I don't like the idea of the radiation sitting on my arm for that long. And also, I do weights so my arm is above my head and I believe they also are not very secure for that kind of thing. Its more the radiation that worries me though.

I had a quick look a bluetooth headphones earlier but there are mixed reviews on them and the distance they work from, some say most only work 1 metre away from your body which isn't much use.

Having the phone in flight mode disables all wireless radios on the device, so it would then be the same as using a standard ipod

I have a smaller MP3 for training so I don't smash my smartphone. It's 8gb and takes a 32GB micro SD card, and is excellent value

I have the older model and it's lasted me years nearly 5 years! And it sounds good too:

If clipped it around my collar, waist, sleeve and even in the little pocket for keys in my shorts (that doesn't work out so good as i have to put my hand in my shorts to change track)

Any ideas what I could use to enable me to bring my phone with me while I do a number of exercises but namely weights.

I had a look at this on the internet but it appears it only really works for running.

Cancer causing radiation? You won't get arm cancer don't worry. Talking on the phone or having it in your pocket are much more likely to cause cancer.

Note: Mobile phones do not produce enough radiation to cause cancer.

Step 1 - buy shorts with pockets
Step 2 - put iPhone & headphones in pocket
Step 3 - put headphones on ears up through t shirt
    Step 4 - train

    Simples

Or just buy an iPod shuffle & clip it to your top

If the "Radiation" emitted by your phone are a serious concern to you then I would recommend taking back your iPhone 5 immediately.

The SAR "specific absorption rate" (this is a meassure of the RF energy emitted by your handset) for the iphone 5 is far higher then for the equivalent top end Samsung device (The galaxy S3)

Generally your phone is only emitting RF when it is in use be it on a phone call, sending a text message or transmitting data. Most smart phones are transmitting and receiving data quite regularly (unkonwn to the user) so I would recommend turning data off in the settings. Unfortunately bluetooth is another form of RF transmitter so using bluetooth headphones will not allow you to avoid the RF radiation. You have found bluettoth headphones that only transmit 1 metre. This is good for the RF power is lower on these than a unit that can transmit a longer distance.

If you want to avoid all RF emissions on your device then turn on "flight mode". As someone already mentioned this turns off all the wireless (RF) radios on the device, these include, 2G, 3G, Wifi and bluetooth. So in flight mode you are back to square one with nowhere to put your phone.

    So your options are:

If you want to avoid the RF radiation in the gym then you need to get rid of the phone and use a portable mp3 player that you can clip to your chest.

If you want to avoid RF transmitters on your person altogether then you need to get rid of the phone and live without one.

If living without a phone is not an option but you are still concerned about RF emissions then get rid of the iphone and get something with a lower SAR rating.
You still should turn off data traffic and avoid using the phone as much as possible.

The following links are to the specs on the iphone 5 and Galaxy S3. The SAR rating is down the bottom in the misc section

    Some more details on SAR

Personally I think you don't have much to worry about and you are safe with a bluetooth headset or keeping the phone on your person ( I do a mixture of the two), but you have mentioned radiation and the risk of cancer a couple of times so I thought you could do with some more info.

op - you seem fairly worried about your phone giving off radiation but your not looking for alternative source of listening to your college podcasts, this seems odd to me but i never went to college so i might be missing something.

i think it might be htfu and train time.
