What is the least populated island off the coast of Ireland?

Not really talking about and island with scientists or a lighthouse keeper, more so communities.

I know Achill Island is the biggest but that seems more like a peninsula. Are there any more that are further 'out at sea' and less populated?

(Was talking about craggy island with a friend and we were trying to think of what it was based on, if anything :D)

i am insulted at that comment especially since i come from Achill, an island still in island regardless wether it has a bridge or not. Achill has been cut off once or twice from the mainland when our brand spanking new bridge fails to close properly after letting a boat through.

The last time it got stuck they had to get a boat to tow it shut.

Inishvickillaun - Haugheyland would be in the mix I'd imagine.

Least populated? There's plenty with none. Like the Blaskets, abandoned ages ago.

    Biggest island? No it's not.

Without going to far down a political arguement, weather you want to call it britain or great britain, it is. As we are the biggest island of it.

Who mentioned Greenland? The op asked about islands off the coast of Ireland and another poster rather astutely pointed out that Britain is the biggest. I believe theirs 25km between the closest points of Ireland and Britain. Theirs hundreds of kms between Ireland and Greenland

    Edit:21kms

You'll remember that the average altitude of the Greenland Ice sheet is over 2.1km far higher than the Island of Britain and from a volumetric view point there are far less people on Greenland per Km3

    And it has communities

Lambey would prob qualify, half dozen live there maybe permanently, privately owned and has a "proper" settlement, houses, church, harbour etc

    Fuck all on Rockall :pac:
Iceland is to the East ;)

Depends where in Greenland you are

21 kms between Ireland and Britain is what I actually meant not Greenland.. I'm not being bad here lad but nobody mentioned Greenland it's not off the coast of Ireland nobody mentioned its altitude or population. So wtf are you actually talking about. You might think your funny with your stupid little laughing face but your talking utter sh*te

Depends where in Greenland you are
Of course I'm assuming you are more likely to be in places that have the highest population density seeing as how most of the rest of it is a desert.

Was on Owey a few days ago and was told by native islanders who live on mainland that nobody lives on island all year round. Most go over during the summer and fix up their old houses and spend some time on the island. A lot just go over for day visits as it is so close to mainland it's very accessible by s small boat.

I was surprised to see so many of the houses being renovated - about 5 years ago most were ruins but now most are patched up and some done tastefully while others are being destroyed by pvc windows and tile roofs etc.

Very beautiful and worth a visit if you get the opportunity
