Spotted this Haynes Combustion Engine in Argos , it's €12.99 reduced from €39.49. Might be nice gift for yourself or anyone interested in cars or engines, not a whole heap of stock around the country but most shops will order it in for you.
    • The engine you will build is a simplified version of a real car engine. The model is designed to be fun to put together and to help you understand how a full-size four-stroke car engine works.
    • Gadgets.
    • Designed to help you understand how a full-size four-stroke car engine works.
    • Includes a Haynes manual giving you clear step-by-step instructions to guide you through the build process.
    • Comes complete with all of the parts and tools you need to assemble the working model.
    • The on/off controller includes a sound chip which reproduces the noise of a real engine.
    • Instructions included.
    • For ages 10 years and over.

    Just reserved one there:)

Might pop around to the few around that said they couldn't check stock. Would be cool.

That wasn't originally designed as a toy, it was actually an engine replacement upgrade for a fiat cinquecento, gave the car 6bhp extra:D.

Might order one for the local mechanic. Would be the only time the fcuker ever looked inside an engine.

    Hopefully got hold of one.

Always wanted one of these but not enough to pay 30 odd quid for!

Built one with my son before,

At this stage we have it turbocharged , chipped, gas flowed ,lightened and dynamically balanced.

    Must inform insurance company

If I try now, it says out of of stock with no reserve option? I'd say their backlog of stock is gone :(

Might be a glitch - I did the same and got a reservation email with no details on it with no reservation number. No SMS either - needless to say I'm not holding my breath!

Walked past one of these in Debenhams in Blanch years ago. Would have bought it, but I'd freshly joined the ranks of the employed after over a year and couldn't justify it. Can't recall the price, but I doubt it was competitive with Argos.

Just built one of these over Christmas, thought it was pretty class! You have to use vegetable oil to lubricate the parts and all :pac:

Built one over xmas with My youngest son....But I forgot the veg oil part. :o

Not sure whether to strip it down to oil it,,or just leave it as he don't use it that much anyway...It's only there for display at the moment.

I'd say it would be fine without the oil, might be fun to take it apart and put back together again without the manual though:)

Good spot, just bought one there on Debenham's website as an early birthday present for myself.

For only €14 and free delivery I'm practically making money on the deal.

It's sitting up on my desk at school.. I thought the kids might like it but they weren't to pushed about teacher and his stupid model engine..

....when you think about it, Argos & Debenhams owe us boardsies a commission.......! We took an unloved-high stock item and managed to empty the shelves of it for them.

Imagine if we did a Skoda Octavia Group Buy !! :)

Ordered one, yesterday. Looking forward to making it with the kids.

My 10 year old got this as part of his Santa present...I ended up building it for him/with him on christmas day...
Alanstrainor...I understand why you have an empty bottle left beside yours.....:D

Tbh it would be as fast putting a real engine together.
It stopped working after an hour so ended up by passing the circuit board and running it directly from tru the red push button...

For the money its not bad i suppose...

Got my two kits this morning too. Sitting here beside me in work tempting me!

I've suddenly started feeling faint and I might have a cough coming on too.

Might have to go home early 'sick' for a hot whiskey.....;)

....I still think they make it too hard to buy cars. Look at what's possible this way: we all went and bought something we had absolutely no need of, no intention of buying. And possibly were broke, too.

    Garages, take note :)
