    Hey everyone,

I just started the Insanity workout. Its great, but my legs esp my calves are really sore right now. I read through the Insanity forums, and they recommend using recovery shakes after the workouts. They usually push their own brand, but to be honest, all these commercial shakes are too expensive and I dont have the money. Ive tried shakes before and i always find the taste repulsive, so I doubt id be able to drink them anyway.

My question is does anyone know what I could eat or drink that would have an equivalent effect to these recovery drinks?

I guess i should mention I hate milk (well i have it with cereal, but i couldnt sit down and drink a glass of it straight) and i dont eat meat or chicken :o

    Thanks

Are you a vegetarian or do you just not like meat or chicken?

You don't necessarily need a recovery shake if you get enough protein from the food you eat.

How much protein would you get a day?

Have you tried milk with a spoonful of nesquick or similar chocolate powder? Great recovery drink. Those Insanity branded recovery drinks are all about marketing........

Im trying to be vegetarian, but I still eat fish so not fully :o ...ive found fish harder to give up than meat and chicken. I usually eat eggs, fish, lentils, quinoa, beans, cheese and yogurt as my main forms of protein. Wouldnt eat them all every day, but i do try to get some of them in for lunch and dinner. I also have a protein shake - is a recovery drink mainly just for the protein, ive heard a 4-1 carbs:protein ratio thrown about a lot?

I did hear choc milk is meant to be good, but I tried the Mars version before and found it very milky for my taste ...this was many moons ago now, so maybe i should try another brand or give your idea a go :)
