Played it on 29th December with a society from home. I absolutely love the course and it was in fantastic condition that day.

Edit: Just to add, the portions of food you get in the clubhouse are big enough to feed three people.

Just confirmed for this event. looking forward to it and the new year possibilities :D

Would it be helpful to try arrange a few carpools as it looks like we will be heading all over the country this year ?

Would help keep costs down and allow some players to have a drink in the club afterwards ?

    Cheers Lads, confirmed this afternoon.

I may have missed it somewhere, but have we confirmed the green fee for the round?

I think 32 was the highest so far. We get an average of 25 or that but I reckon this year there will be more.

Lads, I played Esker on Saturday, it was in excellent condition, I was almost laughing at the bounce and run on the ball at times, no casual water to be seen and the greens (whilst not having lots of grass) were true and in great nick, bunkers all raked etc. etc.
You are in for a treat, also the chicken curry half and half chips/rice for tenner will keep you going for the night, savage feed.
    Enjoy!

Esker Hills picked up the Leinster 'Best Hidden Gem' award last night at the launch of the Golfer's Guide to Ireland 2013.

    Hey,

Just seen this thread and thought I'd post (I follow this forum!). I've played this course a good bit lately (I joined up recently) and it really is in great shape. I was laughing at the roll on the balls too - am used to seeing too many plugged balls at this time of year! Had only one plugged ball - on the 4th hole and if you know the course and hit a driver as short as I do you'll understand why!

Ye are in for a treat anyway. Not sure if there are any other members on here so if ye have any questions fire away.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,292 Mod ✭✭✭✭charlieIRL

I have played it a good few times as well (I work in Tullamore) and its always been in great shape - they mind it very well up there.
Even the last day i played there during the summer it was lashing rain and it was still in great shape!

Due to the large numbers expressing an interest in the society this year and in playing esker hills, I have had to get 3 extra slots for the club to accommodate us. This means our first tee time is now 10:10am and not 10:30 as previously stated.

I am going from Cork, I think the following lads are also Cork (direction) lads and going:
    • Reganovski
    • denisoc16
    • Blokic
    • Staker(maybe)
    • Kiers47-Cashel so on the way.
We could organise 2 cars. If you have people interested they need to be boards members. Price will be announced once we have the cut-off date reached for entries.

As a way of an apology for the no show in the Jug I'll bring along a prize to get back on side with charlieIRL :)

I'm a lazy ass so rather than having to get up really early on Saturday morning, I've booked a room in Portlaoise. It'll halve the journey on the Saturday morning anyhow :)
I'd be happy to drive anyone home or even split the room if someone wanted to do that.

only take me 20 odd minutes to get to portlaoise from tullamore and esker hills is 5 mins from town! Its only 40kms though.

Then again traffic on the portlaoise road can be heavy.

    Guys,

Just to let you know, costs are as follows for this year:
    • €30 membership cost for the society(please pay at first event), this will cover prizes
    • €30 per each event, so therefore some events the society will gain but as the summer approaches we will keep the costs down on the more expensive courses by using any gains from previous events
    • €5 if you are not a member of the society - you will only be allowed do this once during the year, if you want to come a second time then you will be asked to pay the balance of your €30 membership
Some of you might disagree with the membership cost but we are trying to have a society and not an outing every couple of months as if it goes this way then the society will soon fall apart again.

Look forward to seeing ye all in Esker!!!

I live near Esker & you would want to allow 40 mins from the turnoff from the Motorway at Portlaoise to get there. Bring the SatNav as its not the easiest to find.
